A short while ago you all received a letter from Prexy Buck Scott concerning the minireunion to be held in Williamsburg. It certainly sounds like it's going to be a fantastic time, giving you all the chance to visit Colonial Williamsburg as well as get together with old friends. I just got off the phone with Herb Knight, and he informs me that to date he has reservations from Messrs. Hoeppner, Dilks, Choukas, Scott, Ryan, Bovaird, Bernhard, Brown, Knight, and yours truly. If you haven't sent in your reservation, do so right away, as the number of rooms reserved is limited. Herb has really done a great job of putting this weekend together and is hoping as many of you as possible will attend. Old newsletter editors don't die, they just fade away and write for other publications. JoeSpound recently did a piece for the SouthernMarket Preview and Shopping Planner, a furniture business publication. The main direction of the article was that consumers in these times of ever-rising prices are going to demand more quality for their money: "... in these times of inflation and limited travel opportunities, quality will rank first in the decision-making of purchasing for the home." I think most of you will agree with this statement. The era of planned obsolescence has just become too expensive and we therefore must get more quality for our dollar.
The board of directors of Kaiser Foundation Hospitals has established the John J. BoardmanJr. Memorial Fellowship for study in the area of administration of prepaid group practice HMOs. The memorial fellowship is being established at the University of Minnesota, where John received his graduate degree in health care administration. The fellowship will enable candidates in the program to be broadly exposed to the administrative aspects of group practice pre-payment plans, and to gain first-hand administrative experience in the field.
Frank Johnson reports that he is a stockbroker with Johnston, Lemon and Company and lives in Potomac, Md. His daughter Kim will graduate next June from the University of Utah. "I have two sons Bill, 17, and Scott, 12. Life is good!"
Don Morse tells us that last summer he and his entire family were able to take a European vacation trip. This included wife Carol Ann and sons Colin '78 Steven '81,and Earle. Their trip took them through France, Germany, Italy, and Czechoslovakia. "The art and cultures were unparalleled and highlights included visits in the homes of German, Italian, and Czech families."
For the past 18 years, George Goldthorpe has been in the general practice of medicine in Half Moon Bay, Calif. In addition he is administrator for the local hospital. George has three daughters one of them in college. In the fall he attended the Dartmouth Alumni College Greek and Mediterranean cruise with his wife Cecelia, and he tells us it was a tremendous experience.
Pete Henderson has been named to chair the Chicago region in the Campaign for Dartmouth. Presently Pete is associate dean of the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University as well as president of the Winnetka Board of Education. Prior to his deanship he served as vice president of Booz, Allen, and Hamilton Inc. So long for now.
