A heartwarming note, accompanied by a generous check payable to Dartmouth '43, has been received from Amy Cholnoky '77 of Darien, Conn., the head worker at our 35th Reunion, which was the weekend she graduated. She has remembered our class as part of a joyful experience, and, in particular, cherishes her acquaintance with fellow class newsletter editor Eddie O'Brien, who died April 16,1993. Eddie brought her back as "class sweetheart." She treasures the wool scarf and the '43 Indian decal that adorns her Jeep. Her admiration for Eddie and fondness for our class are very special—a nice tribute!

To belatedly report several letters, DonMccorkindale has finally succeeded in selling his industrial-supply company, Chase and Cooledge, of Holyoke, Mass. The company was begun by his father in 1920 and serves several New England states. A "down market," compounded by bothersome environmental checks, made for a difficult sale. Happily, however, the new owner surprised Don and Louise with a retirement party and a twoweek trip to Ireland! Daughter Rosamond remains with the company, and son David operates a towing business in New Jersey. The Mccorkindales enjoy travel, golf, and spending time at their cottage in Chatham on the Cape.

A comprehensive 50-year update from BobPurdy of Sunnyvale, Calif., reminds us that he left college at the end of his sophomore year, returning after a navy tour to finish in 1948. Hired as a waiter at the hospital, he married the boss, Ginny. Following the birth of their first daughter, Jaci, at Hitchcock, they migrated to Southern California, where Bob commuted to White Sands, Edwards AFB, Cape Kennedy, and Vandenberg AFB "playing with missiles." He was involved also with training of SAC and RAF personnel. Changing to the mining-construction business, he served as project engineer in Chile in powerplant and iron-ore plant construction. Two more children came along the way, Robin and Bob. Retirement in '82 has brought extensive travel and volunteer work. Bob has won bouts with lymphoma and prostate cancer. Ginny's health is excellent.

A "quickie" from Bud Miskell, Falmouth Mass., tells of a recent, great (except for some long hills) bicycle trip along the back roads of the San Juan Islands of Puget Sound. They enjoyed Seattle and hope for a return engagement.

Van and Marge Quackenbush, who made the 50th, have remained in Valley Center, Calif., upon retirement. Van spent 45 successful years there as publisher of several small community newspapers. He continues to write and compose the editorial page for the "Valley Roadrunner," which he founded in 1974 and sold in 1990. Golf, four grandchildren, church, and playing the tenor sax keep him busy.

Finally, we're sorry to report the deaths of Fred Woodward on March 25, from lung cancer at Palm Beach, and Gerry Peterson, May 9 in Kirkwood, Mo.
