Dutch Diehl, Port St. Lucie, Fla., writes that he and Del keep busy visiting their four children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and New Hampshire, to name a few states. Highlights were a graduation at LSU and a wedding in Harrisburg.
Warren and Dorothy Fellingham, Palatine, Ill., attended Hank and Jane Parker's 50th anniversary in Winnetka, having been at the 1938 wedding in Princeton, Ill. They have a lot in common as both Fellie and Hank spent their entire business careers at Harris Trust & Savings Bank in Chicago. The Fellingham's three sons and the Parker's one son were all Dartmouth graduates. Both couples are in good health and very much 1926-oriented. It was previously reported in Smoke Signals that Grace and George Slight also were at the Parker's 50th.
The class birthday card took Jack Straight back 65 years, remembering on a pedestal in the Bartlesville, Okla., high school a model of the statue "Appeal to the Great Spirit" featured on our 1988 birthday greeting. Jack and Ruth enjoyed three winter months in Naples including three good meetings of the Dartmouth Club of Southwest Florida.
A suburban Long Island newspaper recently described in some detail the 200-acre Seatuck National Wildlife Refuge in Islip which was deeded to the government by conservation-minded Chuck Webster and his late wife Natalie Peters, in 1978. The staff of a Cornell University-sponsored research program is permanently on the estate, now a habitat for animals and birds. Chuck currently occupies the Twyford residence which eventually will become part of the refuge. As chairman of the board of the Horticultural Society of New York Chuck maintains a keen interest in the outdoors just as in his undergraduate days.
The class recently made a gift to the College of two welcome benches with two matching planters to be maintained with flowers located under the columns of Crosby Hall now part of Blunt Alumni Center as an expression of ongoing love for Dartmouth.
