We (Alcorn, Mclnnes, Bowlen, Condon,French, and I) had an early May glorious gathering in Hanover for class officers meetings. About 300 attended in all, representing 65 classes from 1909 to 1980. And this was only a small segment of the estimated 7000 alumni who are working for Dartmouth as round the girdled earth they roam. There's much to be said for a couple of May days in Hanover and the opportunity given class officers to understand more clearly the relationships among undergraduates, faculty, administrators, and alumni. We also found it a fine opportunity to make some final arrangements for our 50th.

I recently received word that Tom Peirce is retiring as president of Peirce Junior College in Philadelphia. The school was founded 115 years ago by Wil- liam May Peirce, Tom's grandfather, and Tom became as- sociated with it after World War 11. Dur- ing Tom's adminis- tration, the school has attained non-profit status and accredita- tion. Tom's successor will be the first non- family member to direct the school. Tom will continue serving the institution as a member of its board of directors.

Brownie Neff has been awarded a doctor of engineering degree from Case Institute of Technology, where, in 1932, he earned his B.S. in electrical engineering. Since 1950, Brownie has been president of Erico Products Inc., a manufacturer of railroad signal equipment.

The most recent Class of 1930 Fellow was Andrew Young, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. He visited Hanover earlier this year, and Charlie Widmayer reported that about 2,500 people gathered in Thompson Arena to hear his principal address.

It's not too early to make a commitment to attend the Woodstock Glorious Golden Gathering and the Harvard football game the weekend of October 17 and 18.
