Only seven months from the time you read this, the outstanding (or outlandish, as some are prone to say) class of 1957 will officially recog- nize (and be recognized for) its 25 th year since being graduated from Dartmouth College. Be sure not to miss this once-in-a-lifetime, super- extraordinary occasion. Note the dates June 17-20, 1982! Stimulating, fun events are being planned for the entire family, and whether you've never been to a class reunion before or have attended every one to date, plan to be at Dartmouth for what is expected to be a glorious weekend.
As announced by Class President George Southwick and Class Newsletter Editor Tom Schwarz, a number of pre-reunion events have already commenced the build-up to the biggie. On June 7, Cathy and Dan Searby hosted festivities for a group of San Francisco Bay-area '57s and wives. This event began at poolside at the Searbys' home, with Mai Tai's served in hollowed-out whole fresh pineapples and with shrimp balls, spare ribs, and won tons as appetizers. A Hawaiian group provided back- ground music. Enjoying this atmosphere were Mr. and Mrs. Alfaro II, Britton, Canton, Clements, Conley, Curtis, Dalton, Davidow, Gregg, Harrison, Bob King, Nieman, Roush, Saphir, Silberman, Stempel, and Wardle, plus Paul Ehrlich and Bonnie, Chuck King, and Joe Stevenson. Dan Searby reports that all present plan to return to Hanover for the reunion.
After reunion remarks by Joe Stevenson, os- tensibly the whole purpose of the get-together, the group sat down for a lunch prepared by Chef Lawrence Chu, a local cook of some reputation. The menu included a huge whole roast pig as well as chilled Hunan-style chicken, salad, squab, fried rice, and snow peas and mushrooms, topped off with fresh fruit, sherbet, and wine. This Frisco contingent of our class is also plan- ning a fall get-together for a Maine lobster dinner at a Stanford football game. The way this California gang eats, they'll need a couple of 747s to lift them to Hanover next June. Many thanks to Joe Stevenson and Dan Searby for reporting in on this major West Coast ivent!
By the time these notes are published, two ad- ditional major events will be history. The Har- vard-Dartmouth weekend on October 16 and 17 will have featured a class of 1957 reception for the College's new president, David McLaughlin '54, in the Liberty Suite at the Sheraton-Boston. In addition to this opportunity to meet privately with President McLaughlin, there will also have been a general alumni reception including a roast beef dinner and two dance bands the more famous of which is Dave Cook's Reinterpreta- tion Jazz Band. Sounds like a super evening! The next day the 's7s planned a pre-game tail- gate party.
The very next weekend, '57 will have met at Leverone Field House for a luncheon before the Cornell-Dartmouth game. Post-game celebra- tions are scheduled at Burt Foster's vacation home in Quechee, Vt., followed by a class dinner at the clubhouse in Quechee.
So keep thinking 25th reunion and keep your secretary informed regarding pre-reunion events, as well as other class news!
