The International Financial Press reports that Larry Toal is now senior vice president and general manager of Chase Manhattan Bank's branches in Hong Kong. Larry was formerly based in New York, where he had major responsibility for expanding Chase's consumer business nationwide. We look forward to hearing your impressions of the Far East, Larry.
Our hats are off to Dick Paul, who has been doing a fine job keeping us informed of class events through "The 59 Line." As you may know, Dick is practicing medicine in Boston, where he is member of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University Hospital, the teaching hospital of Boston University School of Medicine.
A "well done" also goes out to Bill Colehower, class head agent, who quarter-backed a superb performance in this past year's Alumni Fund drive. Through his efforts strongly supported by a great number of you who worked hard with Bill the class set a new record for contributions and achieved a higher percentage of givers than in the past several years.
Tom Noonan writes from Bloomington, Md., that he was the only non-European participant at the Sixth Oxford Symposium on Coinage and Monetary History held in January 1981. Tom presented a paper on ninth-century Islamic coins found in Russia. He commented: "I was on leave from the University of Minnesota during the first half of 1981 with a fellowship from the Social Science Research Council. Upon returning to academia, I was named the first chairman of the new department of Russian and East European Studies within the Department of History at the university."
Jim Perry currently lives in Florida with his wife Sally and two girls. He is assigned to Allstate Insurance Company's St. Petersburg regional office, where he is regional sales training manager. Jim has been with Allstate for two and a half years and says he is "thriving within the confines of the very successful Allstate organization."
Ted Izzard is currently managing director of the Asia/Pacific region of Hunt-Wesson Foods Inc., based in Manila in the Philippines yet another distant international center heard from! Bill Woolley writes from Ripon, Wise., that he was recently appointed to chair the History Department at Ripon College. Our congratulations!
Bob Carter reports from his Hobart, Ind., domicile that he was recently elected secretary of the Inland Steel-Ryerson Foundation, the phil- anthropic arm of the Inland Steel Company in Chicago. "I returned to Inland after three years' leave of absence as vice president and corporate secretary of Dearborn Park Corporation, a real estate development located near the Chicago Loop. Though I commute 36 miles by car each way, I still find some time to be active in civic affairs in Chicago. Our son Robert, 17, began architectural school at Cooper Union in New York this fall."
A note from Fairfield, Conn., brings us up to date on Doug Adams, who is senior vice president at the Bank of New York. Doug and his wifejudy have three children Doug Jr., 13, Sally, 12, and Annie Laurie, nine. Following Dartmouth, Doug earned a law degree at St. John's University and an M.B.A. at New York University and subsequently become a Certified Financial Analyst as a result of his professional involvement on the investment side of the banking scene.
Joe LaVigna writes, "I am the proud father of a year-old daughter, our first after nearly 12 years of marriage. Judith and I have moved from New Jersey to San Francisco after having decided to leave Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette, where I was senior vice president in real estate finance, to join two other former Wail Street investment bankers as a partner in real estate investment banking for Russell, Telischak and Associates."
Lee Ambrose checked in to note that he has been appointed by the Colorado governor to chair Colorado's Front Range Project for 1981. He notes that this project is "an attempt to deal with the impact of anticipated 50 per cent population increase over the next20 years." I don't expect this will make Denver living any less satisfactory, eh, Lee?
