Deadline for these notes was March 1, and at that time your secretary had little to report, as the following shows:
Treasurer Dave Eckels sent a clip from the Valley News reporting that fire had destroyed a woodworking mill owned by Dwight Sargent. Checking with Peg, Dwight Sargent's widow, we learned the owner is a grandson who took woodworking as a hobby at Hopkins Center. After graduating from Dartmouth and Tuck School, he took over an old mill from his father with such success he had already started a real factory on Route 5 in East Thetford, so he will remain where life and work are a real joy.
A letter from Lester Badger recalled his grandparents rented land in Wheelock, Vt., from Dartmouth. His grandmother never saw her father, because he was drafted for the Civil War, was captured, and died in Libby Prison. Lester has some of the letters his greatgrandfather wrote from prison.
The class extends sympathy to Ed Felt in the loss of his wife Clara on February 17 after a massive stroke.
We regretfully report that Leonard D. Pelton died on February 4, as reported by his daughter.
George von Kapff, our hardworking head class agent, is back in Fitzwilliam. May we give him and his team the best of support in the Alumni Fund. Also remember one or more classmates with a memorial gift.
