Although this bit of secretarial effort will not be out until sometime in May, it does not seem out of place to urge the Class of 1917 to increase its participation and monetary value in the 1981 Alumni Fund, the Campaign for Dartmouth, and the Reunion Giving in 1982. We do not wish to end our career as a class on an easy-going downbeat, but on an energetic upbeat. So, again, let's go at it with vigor!

Howard Myers, Allen Locke, and HaroldClarke have all been taken from us by death recently. This is expected at our age, but it seems like taking a piece right out of our lives. At least it is some relief to have pleasant memories. In a long letter, Harold Clarke's daughter wrote: "Besides being a very loving father and grandfather, he was very active in community affairs, and I have written a few other things you may or may not wish to use in your magazine." These good works of Harold appear in the obituary.

Our intrepid ladies, Helen Brooks and MaryMcCulloch, are again going to brave the rigors of the Alumni Seminar this August. It looks like a very interesting program. It features ancient and mediaeval life and literature, which make for fascinating material. If you can, try to make it. You will not regret it.

Your secretary recently had a letter from a teaching colleague of his at Blake School in Minneapolis. This friend later became the headmaster, and he writes as follows: "Incidentally, your new president of Dartmouth, Dave McLaughlin, is a good friend of ours. He was on the school's board of trustees at Blake when I was head. He should be a great man for you." Blake School has had many of its faculty chosen from Dartmouth.
