On the international front this month is word that MarcNicholson completed ten months of language training in Thai last summer, after assignments at the State Department in Washington as desk officer for Portugal and as a project coordinator between State and the JCS. Once again he is stationed abroad at the U.S. embassy in Bangkok, serving a three-year stint as politico-military officer.
After finishing a two-year assignment at the American Embassy in Mexico, SteveMuller returned to the State Department in Washington where, when last we heard, he was working in the Office of Brazilian Affairs.
Charlie Allen completed a two-year contract with CARE as deputy director for operations in Mozambique following five years with Catholic Relief Services as country program director in Madagascar, Mauritania, Djibouti, Sudan, and Zaire. At last writing, relief and development work had taken him to 43 countries since 1971. Between assignments, Charlie makes his home in Fortaleza, Ceara state, Brazil.
At last report, John Baldwin was living in Tokyo where in 1987 he was voted top pharmaceuticals analyst of the year in a Euromoney survey. John is a securities analyst with Jardin Fleming (Securities), one of six foreign members of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
"Around the girdled earth .. ." and closer to the home front, Nelson Armstrong is an associate director of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund. He returned to Hanover in January of last year after what he describes as "16 years of the kind of R&R eveyone should have."
Terry Adams, John Eaton, DeneysPurcell, and Bill Pickard were inducted into the Dartmouth Rowing Hall of Fame during ceremonies held several years ago in conjunction with the dedication of the new Dartmouth boathouse. All four were honored for their rowing accomplishments at the collegiate, national, and international level.
Tom Herman, Mike Fay, and their families helped celebrate the retirement of Fr. Bill, attending mass held two years ago in honor of the event at Aquinas House.
Frederick Harris returned to Hanover the summer before last to attend a law and economics institute, finding "the Bema remains a good place to read and the Campbells continue to inspire economics students and professors. Moosilauke was conquered once again, albeit at a snail's pace. Having the transitional years of 1971 and 1976 as my only reference point, coeducation now, finally, appears to be a great success. Upon my return home, Nancy '71S accused me of returning with enough Big D paraphernalia to start a Dartmouth Co-op in Dallas."
On that fond note, we'll leave you ... 'til next month.
