25th Reunion June 18-21, 1981
What fun it is to receive letters like the following. From Victoria, Australia, we received this note from Frank Strong: "Decided I would at long last break radio silence and advise the status of the 'other' Strong member of '56. Tiny and I always managed to be able to redirect mail and messages in Hanover days, but the passage of time and tyranny of distance have complicated clear communication in recent years.
"We've been living in Australia (Melbourne) for the past three years and will probably be here at least one more. I've been heading Kodak's Australian operation officially since the end of 1979. We manufacture photographic films, paper, and chemicals for the Australian, New Zealand, and the Southeast Asian markets. In addition, our marketing jurisdiction includes the South Pacific island areas, so I log quite a bit of Southern Hemisphere travel time.
"Barb and I have just seen the youngest of our three kids turn 18, so the family is grown up, by any measure. Our oldest, Sally, 22, has a bachelor of music education degree from Wittenberg University. Lisa is 20 and a junior biology major also at Wittenberg, where she decided to go when we moved to Australia. The two girls have become practiced commuters across the South Pacific, a long haul which fortunately has a few weather compensations to offset the distance.
"Doug, our youngest, has been attending one of the church-affiliated 'public' schools in Australia for the past three years. He'll be a class of '86 candidate.
"I've been with Kodak for 23-plus of our 25 years. The assignments have been varied and interesting and the endeavors rewarding. Unfortunately, I'll have to resist the temptation to claim the farthest-traveled award for the reunion. I've already made two 25,000-mile round trips this year and can see two more coming up none, of which can be made to coincide with June 18-21. That's a real disappointment as I had looked forward to connecting with all the Tuck-Thayers, DU's, and the Gile Hall gang.
"My best to everyone for a terrific 25th."
And from Des Moines, Iowa, a generous Harrington Mason '57 writes: "God, how the years slip by! It's hard to believe that you are about to return to Hanover for your 25th reunion. In looking back, I find that I had as many friends in the class of '56 as I had in my own class. This was especially true when it came to people such as yourself, the other AD's, Doug Keare, and all the others that you report on in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Each month I look forward to reading the '57 class notes and then your comments.
"Enclosed is some 'Tanzi' money. I know that you will spend it wisely. I just wish that I could be there with you when you tap the keg. Give everyone my best" (Hanny, we invite you to join us at the keg-tapping.)
From New Jersey, reunion chairman Toby Julian brings us this reunion news: "We continue to receive a large response from classmates planning to come to Hanover. When you see a list of those attending and your name has been inadvertantly omitted, let us know and it will be corrected. Also, please encourage those people to attend who you would like to see and are not yet signed up.
"I hope you will agree the reunion schedule looks fun as well as worthwhile. Your committee has done everything possible to include sufficient variety to please everyone and at the same time provide enough free time to schedule your own activities.
"It is important that we receive your commitment and down payment soon. Both are necessary so plans can be finalized. Please respond to requests regarding housing and special events as you receive them.
"And finally, I have spoken to a number of classmates recently and everyone seems excited and enthusiastic. Please join us for our 25th. This experience you cannot repeat. I can't guarantee you'll have fun; we can guarantee the opportunity to make your effort result in a worthwhile experience. Your committee and your friends are looking forward to seeing you in June!"
