It is trick-or-treat eve as I put this class column to bed. After three columns, I have yet to learn the trick of meeting the monthly deadline set by the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. In a recent article James Michener said, "I write almost everything three times and would not even dare to send out the first draft of an important letter." It was a treat to read that.

Chic Mock, M.D., discontinued his practice of surgery in Minnesota as of June. He and wife Joan have left to serve as medical missionaries in Uganda for a year as Volunteers for Mission with the Episcopal Church. However, they must raise their own support. Write to Chic (Charles J.) at 1805 11th Avenue North, Virginia, Minn. 55792 about tax deductible contributions.

Sandy Mills III was hosted at a party given by the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Greater Cleveland in recognition for his many years of active support of D. A.A.G.C. Sandy is moving to Colorado Springs.

Larry Leavitt '25, coordinator of the sponsoring program for Dartmouth College athletics, sent along some information pertaining to the program, noting that the present sponsors in the class of '38 are John Adams, Jack Graham, Phil Leach, Win Mayo, Sandy Mills, and Clark Barrett.

The "Newell, Ogden, Perrin Award" at Hartford Public High School is being strengthened. The award to honor the memory of John R. Newell, Harold Ogden, and Edward Perrin is presented each year at graduation to a girl and boy who had to the best of their ability achieved the utmost scholastically as well as athletically in their four years at Hartford High.

Reunion follow-up: Bill and Gerry Norcross, who were sidetracked on their way to reunion when Gerry broke her hip in a fall in Concord, N.H., are back in Honolulu and doing well.

Captain Vi Sherman of Melbourne, Fla., had his first solo art show, held at the Key West Art and Historical Society, in October. Displayed were oils, water colors, and wood-block prints, which included many scenes of Key West as well as other places he has visited in his world travels.

Bill Sherman of Wilmette, Ill., sent in an excellent piece called "How To Stay Young." I posted it to Dan Marshall so that it can be given full exposure in the "Pace Setter."

Jim Cooney of Des Moines, lowa, writes, "I attended the language outreach program at Dartmouth last July. Ten days of super-intensive conversational French. All I can say it works. I recommend it to any '38ers who wish to up-grade language skills. Also, a lot of fun!"

Grover Fox of Lake San Marcos, Calif., spent seven weeks in West Germany last summer exchanging houses and cars. Roamed around Cologne, Strasbourg, Lake Constance, Salzburg, and Munich, with a month just outside Heidelberg. With it all, he still misses New Hampshire.

Dave Rugen of St. Petersburg, Fla., spent the summer visiting family and friends in New England. His ties with Dartmouth include brothers Carl '33, his class's secretary, and Dick '42, his class's president, as well as nieces Kate '83, a member of the tennis team, and Rebecca '86, field hockey.

Reports from three sources indicate that '38 was. well in evidence at the Harvard game. Seen tail-gating with their wives at the ever-hospitable Gil Tanises' were classmates Jack Lutz, Alex Jones, Jack Russell, Carl von Pechmann, Phil Leach, Bob Ross, and Jim Briggs, plus weekend bachelors Gus Southworth and Clark Barrett. The following were spotted at the game: Bob Reno, Bill Dennen, Bill Lyle, Dave Duffy, Bob McLane, Ev Wood, George Porter, Dick Francis, Bud Lynch, and Charlie Hitchcock. Also there was John Adams, who, we are told, has never missed a Dartmouth-Harvard game.

For that song by the fireside: a final report on the golf conglomerate that played in the Northeast last summer. Bob Foley reported that Dick Holt carried him for 18 holes, but they won the foursome score at Hank McDuff's course in Providence. Says Foley, "One has to be a little crazy to play the game of golf."

Happy holidays to the Amazing Class of 1938. Especially to Sam Simons of Swampscott, Mass., a New Year's baby, followed closely on January 2 by Charlie Mann of Topsfield, Mass., and Dick Schubert of Gettysburg, Pa.
