DARTMOUTH'S premier basketball player, Gail Koziara, continues to pour in the baskets and pick off the rebounds. Through the middle of February, the senior center had scored 1,811 points and grabbed 1,554 rebounds during her fouryear career. Those statistics make her the most prolific scorer and rebounder in the College's history. Paul Erland holds the men's record with 1,606 points scored from 1969 to 1972. Rudy LaRusso holds the men's rebounding record with 1,239 from 1956 to 1959. Koziara, a Rhodes Scholarship finalist, is also the all-time leading (male or female) rebounder and scorer in the Ivy League.
The Dartmouth women had an overall record of 10-8 midway through February and a 4-1 mark in the Ivy League. A 64-57 loss to Pennsylvania at Philadelphia was the Green's first league loss in two years. This winter, Koziara was averaging 23 points and 20.9 rebounds per game.
Despite the loss to Penn, the women's basketball team still had a crack at the Ivy title. So, as of mid-February, did the women's hockey team, with a 9-6 overall record and a 4-2 league record. Princeton, which beat Dartmouth, 5-0, early in the season, was the favorite in the end-of-season tournament.
