THE field hockey team, undefeated in the regular season, went to the national intercollegiate championships in Ellensburg, Washington, where the Dartmouth women beat St. Louis, 1-0, in the first round but then lost, 2-0, to San Jose State, eventual third-place finisher in the tournament. After completing its schedule with a 7-0-5 record, the team qualified for the championships by taking second place in the Eastern regionals. The leading scorers for the season were Holly Burks and Ellen Remsen. Named most valuable players were Laurie Center, the goalie, and Annabelle Brainard, who scored the gamewinning goal against St. Louis.
The women's tennis team finished with a 5-1 record and successfully defended its New England Intercollegiate Tennis Championship. Senior Thayer Wendall and sophomore Jody Awad retained their New England doubles title.
Sophomore Art Switchenko captured the individual Ivy League crown as the Dartmouth cross-country team finished fourth in the league and sixth in the Heptagonal championships. The runners were sixth in the NCAA District I qualifying race.
The women's cross-country team finished eleventh in New England competition. The women's soccer team ended the season with a 6-4 record, and Sarah Franklin and Kathy Sykes were named to the all-Ivy team.
