As I write this column, the fall foliage is nearing its peak in New England. The students of the class of '87 have begun their four-year odyssey at Dartmouth. Over 8,000 prospective students completed applications for admission, and there are now 1,060 freshmen on campus. Forty-two percent of the class is female. Approximately 75 percent of the freshman class is receiving financial aid of some sort from the College. The estimated cost of one year at Dartmouth is now close to $14,000. In cost and composition of the class, things are very different than they were in the autumn of 1969.

Let me start the class news by catching up with a couple of weddings. Congratulations are due to Andy McKibbin and Linda Zeller, who were married on July 9 at Rollins Chapel. Andy went on to dental school at Fairleigh Dickinson after Dartmouth and is now practicing dentistry in Norwich, Vt. Linda, a graduate of Keene State and Indiana State, is currently an athletic trainer at the College.

Another Hanover wedding involved StanCrane and Barbara Zeck. They were married at Aquinas House this past June. Barbara, known as "Bobbie," is a learning specialist at Hanover High, where Stan is also on the faculty as a math teacher. Congratulations to you both.

Lee Rosengard and his wife, Andrea Kramer, became the proud parents of a second little girl, Joanna Kramer Rosengard, on July 1. Their first, Rebecca, is now two years old. Lee and Andrea are currently living in the Philadelphia area, where Lee is in the litigation department of Stradley, Ronon, Stevens and Young and Andrea is corporate counsel to Acme Markets Inc.

I have also received word that Donna Bascom is now the director of business affairs at the MGM/UA Home Entertainment Group in New York City.

Valerie Armento has joined the office of the legal counsel for the city of Hayward, Calif., in the position of deputy city attorney.

Dan Brenner is currently legal assistant to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C. He edited and wrote portions of the new book Free butRegulated. He was also recently elected to a five-year term as a trustee of Stanford University. Dan has been a lecturer in mass media law at Stanford as well as a lecturer in jurisprudence and a lecturer for the Program for Advanced Studies in Federal Regulation at the Washington School of Law, American University, Washington, D.C.

Dan Chodos was a guest artist with the Dartmouth Players Repertory Company this summer, directing the premiere of Amongthe Lilies and playing Mr. Antrobus in TheSkin of our Teeth.

Pete Smith and his wife Martha and son Brian are happily ensconced in Jacksonville, Fla. Pete has recently left the Barnett Bank for an executive position with a local oil company. He has been burning up the Florida tennis circuit but managed to squeeze in time to celebrate the recent birth of his daughter Sarah Kimberly.

Kelvin Chin graduated from Boston College Law School last spring. Last I heard he was clerking for Choate, Hall and Stewart, a major Boston law firm.

The Manufacturers Hanover Bank recently announced that our class treasurer, Joe Powers, has been promoted to vice president of the metropolitan corporate banking division. Joe is responsible for the development and management of major corporate accounts.

In closing, we are still looking for a class newsletter editor, so please contact me if you're interested. This will be an especially important position in view of our tenth reunion's being this June. Steve Quigley has been doing a great job with some of the initial organizing for that event. Also, if you have any interest in running for class officer or for the class executive committee in the class elections which will take place at reunion, please contact me.

That's it for now. See you next month.
