By the time this column reaches your respective mailboxes, the Christmas season should be upon us, so a merry Christmas to one and all. And if this great journal does not land on your doorstep until 1981, well, forget Christmas and let me wish you all a happy New Year!
As I write this column, the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are still trying to come to grips with the stunning electoral victory of Ronald Reagan. The President-elect even carried "Kennedy Country." Perhaps it's all due to his key Dartmouth advisors, alumnus Martin Anderson '57, Professor Colin Campbell, and Professor Jeffrey Hart '51.
Well, with those two introductory paragraphs you may have surmised that I don't have much class news this month. You're right. Since J. Wright's stirring epistle (duly published last month), I have received very little class correspondence. So please, when you have a free moment, scribble some news, insults, lies, anything, on the back of a postcard and send it along. Besides, it makes for more entertaining reading than my Master Charge bill.
Regardless, I have crossed paths with several classmates during the course of the fall. I recently saw Bob Glovsky at a Dartmouth Hub Club meeting and luncheon. Glover has a law degree from Boston University and is currently working as a financial planner in Boston. PhilMaloney, along with his wife Sue and baby Molly, are living in Charlestown while Phil completes his residency in orthopedics at Mass. General. George Leach is further down the Charles River working as a financial-aid officer for the Crimson. Digger Donahue is working as a Boston investment banker at Brown Brothers Harriman in between squash matches.
Sue and Steve Stetson are living outside of Boston in Millis, Mass., with their baby girl, Amy. Stets is an assistant coach (under former Dartmouth assistant Rick Taylor) of a highly successful Boston University football team. At this juncture, it looks like they may win the Yankee Conference again this year. Congrats, Steve.
Speaking of football, I have seen a number of '73s in the stands this fall. Tom Lane, Doug Bates, Chet Homer, Wayne Davis, Ken Tyler, Ray Sancucci, Tuck Bailey, Phil Maloney, Bruce Ling, George Leach, Chet Smith, and Joe Powers were all in the stands (and allegedly sober) for that sweet victory over Harvard. I saw Tom, Doug, and Chet once again at the Yale game, which was a more frustrating four quarters of football.
Well, that's about it for this month. Please drop me a line if you have a chance, and I'm sure that Joe Powers would appreciate class dues from anyone who has forgotten. Best wishes, and I'll see you next month.
