John Heston, on a recent business trip to New York, reported the good news that the famous Indian murals, painted in 1920, are again open and on display in the Hovey Grill at Thayer Hall. John also told us the Campaign for Dartmouth had well exceeded the $200 million mark before January 1. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this remarkable event happen.

Kevin Sullivan wears a "Talking Proud" button on his lapel and a gold buffalo adorns his downtown office, where he is the chief executive officer of the Western Region of the Bank of New York, in Buffalo, N.Y. But Kevin's devotion to the city he loves goes a lot deeper than slogans or statuettes. As new chairman of the Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce, he has made a strong and sincere commitment to devoting his time and energies to the promotion of prosperity in Buffalo and western New York. A recent hard-hitting article in Western New York magazine discussed Kevin's realist's approach towards his new job. "The major challenge is economic development. Put simply, the challenge is to create jobs." The Sullivans live in Amherst, where Virginia Sullivan is known as "every bit the Buffalo booster her husband is," according to Kevin.

A news release reached us early in December announcing that Larry Martz has been named editor of Newsweek International. Larry will be responsible for its increasingly autonomous operations in addition to exploring opportunities for its expansion and development. Larry has been involved in the development of new editorial ventures. He has been responsible for the development of Newsweek On Campus, a supplement produced by Newsweek's staff for national distribution to college students, and he is also supervising special editorial projects connected with Newsweek's 50th anniversary in early 1983.

We spotted a picture of honorary class member Frank DelVecchio sporting his 25th reunion hat in the recent Brown/Dartmouth football program. Frank is the only honorary member of the class of 1954. He is a regular contributor to the Alumni Fund and attended our 25 th reunion. Frank is celebrating his 50th Dartmouth football season, and has only missed one game at Dartmouth during that span, when a 1963 illness forced him to exchange a hospital ward for his familiar spot in front of Hopkins Center, where he sells Big Green souvenirs. Now 80 years old, he said, "When I saw this place, I fell in love with it immediately. My first two loves in this world are my wife and Dartmouth." Frank has allegedly retired, but he still sells souvenirs at the Italian religious festivals in Massachusetts, the five Dartmouth home football games each year, and the annual Shrine/Maple Sugar Bowl football contest in Hanover each August. See you at the next home game, Frank!

Bryce Bastian was elected president of Emhart East, a new post in the machinery operations of this manufacturing concern. Bryce was most recently vice president, marketing operations, for Singer Company.

Joe Migley was spotted at the large Justin Stanley Jr. '7l Dartmouth wedding get-together in Wilmette early this past summer.

News has also reached me that Paul Wilson has been made an overseer of the Tuck School.

As class scribe, I have been keeping in close contact with campus activity this year by subscribing both to The Daily Dartmouth as well as to the Dartmouth Review. I pass along a recent bit of intelligence: The College is installing locks on dormitories, in time for Winter Carnival.

Again, a big word of thanks to you out there who keep spotting newsworthy items for this column: Fred Alpert, Jerry Goldstein, Dick Barker, and Pete Barker this month. Also had a nice letter and a "Wah Hoo Wah" from Dennis Alpert, Fred's son at Choate. Many thanks for the mail and information.
