It's April and spring has finally sprung after a wild winter full of wacky weather all over the world. Rumors that California had fallen into the ocean proliferated for quite some time, but reports to the contrary have been verified. Our agent-in-Los Altos, Jason Klein, sent news of several '82s who had survived the severe rains and floods. Jason is learning corporate strategy at Bain and Company. He and Bob Faber share a "cushy Los Altos apartment in a complex complete with pool, jacuzzi, and sauna." Bob, when not in the pool, jacuzzi, or sauna, is selling home computers to Sears and K-Mart as Atari's number-one rising young executive. Other '82 survivors of the rough western winter include Alex Fernandez, who is also employed by Bain and Company in Los Altos, and Kent Arnold, who works for Hughes Aircraft Company, lives in Hermosa Beach, and intends to head off to graduate school in physics next year. Dave Mayberry, who is studying Slavic languages and literature, says that he and Alex Schach von Wittenau both made it through the rains at U.C. Berkeley. Laurie has begun pre-med classes and hopes do go on to medical school when she finishes. In the meantime, she is determined to recruit a large contingent of '82s to the West Coast. Operation Manifest Destiny/Dartmouth Class of 1982 is a glowing success story; Laurie reports that George Huntington and Eric Christiensen have established themselves out there, and that others are on their way.
Not all of our classmates will slip into the Pacific if the rains sweep California away from the continent. Jay Miller is performing laboratory research in safe and dry Wauwatosa, Wise., and concurrently applying to medical schools. His old running buddy, Keith Hampton, attends business school in. Chicago, and one of their female counterparts (they are all cocaptains emeritus of Dartmouth track and field teams), Laura Morrell, is still on the go. Now she is running across the campus and through the corridors of Creighton School of Nursing in Omaha, Neb.
Washington, D.C., dwellers write that they finally dug themselves out of the paralyzing snowstorm of early February. Lucky that they had all had winter weather survival courses in Hanover! It seems fitting, while we are on the subject of cold and wet climate conditions, to note that we have a classmate employed by the U.S. government's Department of Energy. Doug Tengdin has been working for Uncle Sam in this capacity since graduation. TedTrabue is working for government, as well. He is gaining insight into D.C. city government; Ted is a writer, editor, and right hand associate to the mayor's executive assistant. Sally Sheehan and Amy Gonroff also chose to reside in the capital city and brave the mountains of snow on their trek toward greater knowledge. Sally is pursuing a graduate degree in linguistics, while Amy is enrolled in a physiology program at Georgetown. Living just a few blocks north of Georgetown, but commuting to the booming 'burb of Bethesda, Md., is Michael McKenna. Mike is a statistician and computer programmer for information systems in the clinical center at the National Institutes of Health.
Well, they say that April showers bring May flowers, but what did this wild winter bring' Engagement and marriage announcements, of course! Wesley Sheridan recently announces plans for a June wedding to his Canadian sweetheart, affectionately known as Sandra Dee. Joe Jangro (presently employed by Buston Leather) and Sue McLaughlin 'Bl will be married in Hanover in latejune. They plan: reside in Boston. The New York Times of February 27 informed the world that Carol Davis (now working as a paralegal at a small New York law firm) and Randy Roy (living and working in Boston) will celebrate their nuptial' in September'of this year. When she is not standing up weddings, Anne is an actuarial student for Aena Life Insurance Company in Hartford, Con. The list of unions goes on, but room runs out It seems that lots of people want an opportun to collect the silver spoon for the class baby!so stay tuned, send information about yourse" or other classmates you have heard tell of, and keep smiling.
