As this is the final class notes column in my two terms of service as class secretary, I'll take this occasion to recall some of the events commemorated here in the past decade.
1977: Relly Raffman, of Barbary Coast fame, returns to Hanover to conduct his setting for Psalm 100, the familiar "Jubilate Deo."
1978: Foreign Service Officer Howie Thomas transfers from Sierra Leone to Upper Volta ("about 850 miles due east of Sierra Leone, still in West Africa, but a very different part the sub-Saharan Sahel"). Oregon Governor Bob Straub offers a self-appraisal, comparing himself to his opponent for the governorship: "People make inevitable comparisons between us. He's colorful, articulate, and dramatic. I'm more subdued, not pushy. He's more lovable than I am. I'm old enough to know that we have to live with what we are. Joe Goldstein is named to a Sterling Professorship, "among the most distinguished chairs" at Yale.
1979: Just before the critical times, John Harvey moves from St. Johnsbury, Vt., to the American Institute of Iranian Studies in Teheran. Seth Washburn becomes a vice president of personnel and public relations for Bell Telephone Laboratories, and Fred Stockwell becomes executive v.p. for Massachusetts Business Development Corporation. Herb Gordon of Pittsfield, Mass., receives the Francis H. Hayden Award for distinguished community service. John Reps's Cities of the American West'A History of Frontier Urban Planning (for which he later receives the top award from the Amen can Historical Association) is published by Princeton University Press.

Dr. Samuel Bullock is honored for his "outstanding contributions the field of mental health and his work advancement of blacks in the health Pro sion." gill Seidman becomes dean of the Coliege of Business Administration at Arizona State University.
1983: Walt Daggatt wins the 60th Annual Seniors North West Golf Association championship.
These brief accounts are just samples of activities to attest to the caliber, capacity, and achievement of 1943. I need say little more to convince you how pleased and privileged I have felt to be the recorder of these events. And who can doubt that the best of times the crowning moments, the hard-won satisfactions, and the surprising innovations are yet to be?
