There is a real knack to summing up. Most people don't have it. They tend to repeat what has already been said and seldom come to any conclusions.

Having said that, and knowing that my term of office will have expired before you read this, I will, with due humility, sum up.

Let's get the conclusions out of the way first: • Most of you seem to be aging well. • Many of you who have made it to "the top" and many of you who haven't are heavily into extra-curricular endeavors and good works. (I believe Maslow calls this phase selfactualization.)

• A few of you are still changing careers.

• And fewer yet sired offspring during the past five years. (Think what four years at Dartmouth will cost in 1998.)

• No one writes letters for fun anymore but lots of new industries are emerging to feed our insatiable desire to talk to one another. Fall reunions are becoming more popular each year, but it is the spring quinquennials that bring you your new class officers.

I've had a few bad moments during my term as secretary, as deadlines approached with a bare in-basket. But somehow we managed. A few phone calls usually were able to save the day and I enjoyed hearing a friendly voice from the past.

Our aim was always to inform, and to those of you who helped, my heartfelt thanks. Best wishes to you all. Vail.
