Another month with slim pickings in the mailbox! However, the '74 news continues...

Lex Chalko managed to find time to drop a line, telling of his experiences since leaving the Hanover Plain. Lex graduated from a residency in psychiatry at Georgetown University in June of last year and moved north to the Danbury, Conn., area, where he has started his professional career as director of the Danbury Hospital Mental Health Clinic. He has also managed to get married, to Susan Widness in July of 1982 and the newlyweds have just purchased a home'in Redding, Conn. Lex reports that he keeps in touch with Wayne Whitmore, who is practicing ophthalmology in New York City, and Garry Morton, who is practicing law in Stamford, Conn. Garry and his wife Miliary recently had their second child, a baby girl. You may remember Miliary by her maiden name, Buhler, as she was an exchange student from Wheaton. The class sends its best to all the Mortons! Lex also sees Scott Mason, who was reportedly preparing for an April wedding to Karla Gamvescia. Lex, thanks for the info!

Congrats to Stevan Sandberg, who has been elected assistant secretary of Rockefeller Center Inc., a diversified company with interests in real estate, energy, manufacturing, and entertainment. Stevan is involved in general matters pertaining to the firm and serves as real estate counsel, with responsibilities in real estate development activities and in matters that pertain to the Rockefeller Center. He joined the firm in September of 1982, having been previously affiliated with the law firms of Kelley, Drye and Warren and Shearman and Sterling. Stevan is the recipient of this month's " '74 ROAR"!

Some more news on Chris Nicholson arrived in the postbox this month. She has become associated with the law firm of Hale and Dorr in Washington, D.C., where she will concentrate on litigation. Chris was formerly a trial attorney with the civil division of the United States Department of Justice. Best of luck in your new position, Chris!

Finally, the class bids farewell to James Hubert "Eubie" Blake, who died on February 12, just five days after celebrating his 100 th birthday. Eubie, you will all remember, was awarded an honorary doctorate at our commencement in 1974. His career spanned more than 80 years, from ragtime through his Broadway partnership with Noble-Sissle (including such its as Shuffle Along" and "Chocolate Dandies"), WPA musicals and night club floor snows in the thirties, and tours of Army camps and hospitals during World War 11. At age 66 he graduated from New York University. His career was revived by the 1966 recording "The 86 Years of Eubie Blake" and he kept on coming and performing until shortly before his one day, "I'll performing'" he said, "until says, I'm on stage, the man upstairs satys, 'Nine, ten - you're out.'"Such was the spirit of this amazing man. His signature tune was "Memories of You'a title which in a small wat captures how all of Eubie's fans have been left - saddened, but grearly enriched by the full, vibrant life he lived.
