Ev Parker's doctor told him recently that the Social Security computer thought he was dead. Neither Ev nor the doctor believed the computer. Ev remains chipper. He drives over to Boulder now and then for a shoeshine and lunch.
These hostile computers are annoying. The sovereign and still experimental state of California some months ago ordered your secretary to produce a notary's certificate proving that he, the secretary, was quick, not dead.
Experience suggests, however, that even 1916 class members won't live forever. So the class has made arrangements with the College about the class treasury. It will be turned over to the College's director of research and stewardship when there are fewer than ten members of the class. The funds may be used toward ALUMNI MAGAZINE subscriptions for class widows.
Linda Beane '84, granddaughter of JackEnglish, continues to get high marks as the Class of 1916 scholar. The scholarship was set up by Sigurd Larmon '14 in memory of his brother, Pike Larmon. Linda is a FrenchSpanish major from Arlington, Mass. She studied in Lyon, France, last year under the Language Study Abroad program.
Another 1916 granddaughter, Mary Fairbanks '83, is now attending Columbia Medical School. Her grandparents are Mary Ross and the late Kenneth Ross. This from Mary Fuller.
Duffy Lewis still likes New Hampshire and his summer place in Barnstead. He told Mary Fuller that he and his schoolteacher daughter really live in Swampscott, Mass., but spend summers and weekends in Barnstead.
