Dick Parkhurst has his name on a town forest. He served on the Winchester, Mass., Town Forest Committee for 36 years. Now the Brooks-Parkinson Town Forest that he was influential in creating has 28 acres. It is enjoyed by bird-watchers, joggers, and other nature lovers. On a recent Arbor Day citizenvolunteers planted cherry, tulip, crabapple, and mountain ash saplings, all sold at discount prices by a local nursery. Boy Scouts and town employees helped, the new trees will balance the present stands of hemlocks and oaks.
John Ames, down in Bethesda, Md., was working on his income taxes when last heard from. Otherwise he was feeling fine. His apartment is across the street from the Naval Hospital and just down the road from the National Institutes of Health. This is very handy when he feels a bad cold coming on.
Gay Goward (widow of Paul) is moving back from Florida to Massachusetts. She prefers relatives and sparkling snow to orange trees. Her address will be: 293 Turnpike Road, Apartment 618E, Westboro, MA 01581.
Hugo Gumbart, 1916's bequest chairman, reports a bequest of $103,548 from Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Parsons. The total of bequests from 1916 members is now $437,263.
Hugo is in Delray Beach, Fla., and means to stay there. He says he wants no more snowshoveling. Recently he picked 400 grapefruit from the tree in his front yard. Other than that yearly chore he gets his exercise going to Kiwanis Club luncheons. He feels fine and remembers when he and your secretary ran in the freshman cross-country tryouts. That was some time ago.
