Oh rats. The April column arrives. The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of 60 minutes an hour, whatever she does, whoever she is. (C.S. Lewis obviously did not take finals at Dartmouth.) Oh well, guts is grace under pressure. I am using unattributed quotations for my column this month . . . it's easier than thinking.

"We've got those 20th-century blues," said Chris Andrews and Rob Rohn, seeing themselves in "W" an exclusive pictorial Women's ear Daily, in the New York spread section. Clad in overcoats and sensible shoes, they stride past Morgan Guaranty in the magazine visible '83 success stories. They live in big, tall skyscrapers And the elevated's rOar/And they long for the morning papers/ That come out the night before. (OK, so it's Cole Porter.)

Jim Slaby sent along a note with his class dues. He's moving to Fort Lauderdale to begin a new job as a technical writer in the computer business. He left Bruce Andrus behind in Boston; Bruce is deciding which medical school to attend and working at Deaconness Hospital as a lab technician. Both send greetings to the Ma Fayerweather gang.

Walter Foster, secret love of all Ma Fayer types, is now working for Jim Shannon, a candidate for the Senatorial seat now held by Paul Tsongas '62. Walter chums with StuDowns, who is working for Raytheon on a transportation project. Rich Goldman and Jeff Teich were seen striding through Hanover on a spring weekend did they bring the primary day snow? Rich is taking classes and still making trouble here in Hanover.

Eric Sachsse re-entered the recruiting scene, interviewing for Aetna. Underclass students openly gasped as the young alum, his voice full of money (paraphrase, F. Scott Fitzgerald) asked them about their ultimate ambitions (gulp). Seen alongside him in CES was Clay Spears, fresh out of graduate business courses in Texas and hitting the New York scene, and Cathy Barr, taking a day off from Irving Trust.

A teacher's life is one of work, but teaching at Dartmouth just one year out could be rather exciting. Nadia Dombrowski, professor to us peon types, is teaching sections in the Russian department. Success on the old home turf and she still speaks to us! I wonder if she also gives recommendations ... KarenRogers is working with learning-disabled students in a little town in Pennsylvania, being teacher, trainer, friend, and inspiration. Give a rouse for them both.

Jo Taplin and Heather Roulston are living together on Commonwealth Avenue in B'town and living it up according to current rumor. Jo is well versed in police work, so never fear, friends. Marisa DeAngelis is living in the North End and is a chef at the four-star Harvest Restaurant in Cambridge. Not bad for 22!

Page Wieche worked at the China Institute this summer in New York doing work on publications. Other Asian Studies, people are in China: Kevin Lane in Taiwan on a Fulbright, Susie Reynolds in the People's Republic of China on a Dartmouth general scholarship, and Justin Rudelson traveling extensively through Russia, China, Japan, and Israel. Justin won the Pray Prize for Modern Languages at graduation but can also balance chairs on his nose, if I recall correctly.

Entrepreneurial impulses in '83s arise: Anni Dupre owns a store at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, and Andy Davillman is working with the family business in New York. Ruling the world.and the work force armed with a religious degree, Andy travels to far-off lands. In L.A. he saw Nadya Kliiigel, who is pursuing a degree in fine arts, and he went to Cincinnati top. I shall not aim darts at the P&G crowd, but I have not heard news of exciting life there for quite a while. Is there a postal strike?

Designing a better mousetrap at Harvard Architectural School, Steve Hart confesses to seeing many Dartmouth types in the Square, and to. not saying hello. On a brief visit to Hanover, hanging around the Hopkins Center like old times, Stevetold of everything from Bauhaus to his house. (Ha!) What is Doug Marshall doing? Is he double-majoring in graduate school again? The man with the dancing feet has not been heard from (hint). I saw Melissa Kaish, also at Harvard with Steve, here in Hanover as well.

Maureen Bunce was in town for her Dartmouth Med interview and still keeps perspective and humor. Is it the outside world or just her? All of those with the aforementioned qualities, please market them and sell them. We could all use 'em ... for finals.

I have been castigated for making pairs of the '83s in my columns and wish to announce that it is simply my poor writing style, not their assignations. Kelly Fowler and KenWeinstein are not an item; please stop the flood of mail in my direction. (Sorry, guys.) Write and let me know of the assignations you all do have. (I told you brown wrappers will be accepted in dull months.)

I have a small town soul It makes me want to know The unimportant things About the folks that go Past on swift journeyings.

Blessings.
