Trustees of the College have established an endowed professorship in government in memory of William Clinton Story Remsen, who was president of our class in our sophomore and junior years. Bill was a scholar and varsity athlete who died unexpectedly of a heart seizure in 1953.

The endowed professorship was made possible by a major gift to the College from Bill's younger brother, Frederick D. "Ted" Remsen '50, a New York investment counsellor. Two of the 16 members of the College's Board of Trustees were Bill Remsen's classmates - Bob Field and George Munroe.

In his undergraduate years, Bill was president of Green Key, a member of the Undergraduate Council, and a member of Palaeopitus, Casque and Gauntlet, and Psi Upsilon. He won '43 numerals in football, hockey, and golf and varsity letters in hockey and golf.

At graduation, he won the Colby Government Prize for outstanding work in his government major and the Barrett Cup for allaround achievement as a senior. Bill was in the U.S. Navy's submarine service during World War II and after the war was graduated from Columbia Law School.

Bob Ott has received a meritorious service award from The Conservancy, a conservation organization in Naples, Fla. Bob was only the second person to receive the prize, described as the highest honor the organization awards to a volunteer. In addition to his conservation work, Bob also is the immediate past president of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Southwest Florida. One of Bob's neighbors, Robinson Bosworth '37, sent us a clipping on the award from a local newspaper.

The cover story in the March issue of TheNutmegger, a Connecticut magazine, featured Robert C. Barnum, who is chairman of the Greenwich, Conn., Charter Revision Commission for the third time. Bob is a Greenwich lawyer and yachtsman who has been active in Greenwich affairs for 33 years. He was chairman of the local CRC in 1975 and again in 1980. He also has been moderator pro tem of the Representative Town Meeting, a member of the Board of Health, served ten years on the Flood and Erosion Control Board, and was Greenwich town prosecutor in 1951-52. The article paid tribute to Bob's "patience, tact, and experience."

The Eastern Massachusetts Dartmouth Alumni Association threw one of the biggest sports wingdings in memory last month at Boston's new Westin Hotel. Dartmouth athletes who have won All-American, Olympic, Hall of Fame, or professional sports honors were feted at the affair, which drew more than 600 alumni and friends from throughout the world. Our class was represented by College Trustee George Munroe, an All-American and pro basketball player. He was one of the speakers at the function. The class also had second generation representation. Julia Geer '75, a three-time Olympian in rowing, also was a speaker, and her sister Charlotte '80, another Olympic rower, was a member of the honorary dinner committee. They are the daughters of Howie "Pete" Geer and his wife "Jeff."

We were re-elected president of the Merrimack County Dartmouth Alumni Club at a recent meeting that featured New Hampshire Governor John Sununu, an ex officio Trustee of the College, as the speaker. John Hyde is a member of the club's executive committee.

We were red-faced to discover a monthsold note from Hal Lindley among a batch of '43 jottings. Accompanying the note was a photograph (it must be nearly 45 years old) of ten '43s sitting on the steps of Middle Mass Hall. Hal could identify Tom Keeler, ChuckLongfield, himself, Al Crowley, Oaky Curtis, Ed Leene, and Chick Webb. But there were three faces in the picture that Hal couldn't put names to. Does anyone recognize the three unidentified young faces? Shower down with responses.

Hal Lindley '43 recently dug up this snapshot of a group of classmates on the steps of MiddleMass Hall. Lindley identified those pictured as, left to right, Tom Keeler, Chuck Longfield,Lindley, and an unidentified classmate, then A1 Crowley, Oaky Curtis, Ed Leene, and ChickWebb. The lone squatter in front also is unidentified. The picture was taken in either the fall of1939 or late spring of 1940.
