The Class Officers Weekend, held in early May at the College, delivered a "double whammy" of honors to the class of 1951. First, and to everyone's delightful surprise at our table, both Pete and Jean Henderson were called to the podium at the Friday night banquet to receive a Dartmouth Alumni Award for Pete's service both to Dartmouth as well as to the city of Chicago. It was a double joy for Pete as well because his father, Kenneth M. Sr., of the class of 1916, had received the same award during the prime of his career. The Hendersons are believed to be the only father/son team to date to receive the same award since its inception. Watch out for young John M. Henderson, Pete's son from the class of 1982. The complete citation to Pete will be published in the class newsletter as well as here in this column at a later date and is excerpted elsewhere in this issue. Secondly, during the same weekend, Dave Batchelder was elected president of the Class Newsletter Editors Association as well as being recognized for his creative communications to our class. Also, Chuckie Mclntyre of Cheshire, Conn., widow of Jock Mclntyre, has been named to the executive committee of our class.

During the same weekend, the class officers were shown the new film Wearers of theGreen. It's an excellent film, prepared for a gala banquet held in Boston in April to honor Dartmouth alumni who have excelled as Olympians, ail-Americans, world and national champions, members of various Halls of Fame, and major league professionals. A complete program from the affair is available from the College at $5.00 per copy. The classmates honored and mentioned are as follows: Brooks Dodge and Dave Lawrence, Olympic skiers; Cliff Harrison, all-American hockey; Jock Mclntyre and Blaine Boyden, all-American swimmers; Dave Lawrence again as national skiing champion; and Walt Bush in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Also, team captains Bob Matthews, 1951 baseball; Bob Hustek, 1951 basketball; Paul Staley, 1950 football; Duke Carey, 1950 golf; Cliff Harrison, 1951 hockey; Bob Fiertz, 1951 lacrosse; Eggert Benzon and Willy Cross, 1948 and 1949 sailing, respectively; Wes Blake, 1951 skiing co-captain; Dave Saxton, 1950 soccer; HunterWhite, 1951 squash; Jock Mclntyre, 1951 swimming; Joe Welch, 1951 tennis; and DaveKrivitsky, 1951 track.

Kudos for Frank Smallwood, who has been chosen a finalist in the Political Book Awards competition for 1983. His book, as previously reported, was one of 24 chosen as finalists.

Fortunato "Lucky" Quesada writes that in 1983 he became the minister of fisheries in the Peruvian government's cabinet, as well as being an independent attorney and involved in several businesses. He writes that all classmates visiting Peru should call upon him at Juan de Aliaza #410 in Lima 17.

If you are interested in subscribing to a news service, don't miss the long and detailed descriptive article in the Lebanon, N.H. Valley News regarding Pete Martin's new venture of providing a news service to the industrialized world about stories of daily life in the developing countries. A 25-year veteran of Time magazine, Pete is now operating out of a two-room office on West Wheelock Street in Hanover. Pete is starting a nonprofit news service that will bring stories of daily life in developing countries to the industrialized world. The news service will also arrange story exchanges among developing countries and send stories about industrialized life to developing countries. The new organization, the South-North News Service, is scheduled to begin operating on January 1, 1985. Pete has already raised $525,000 toward a $711,000 start-up budget. Twenty-eight publications, from The Economist in Britain to the Modesto Bee in California, have indicated an interest in subscribing. He hopes the service will break even within four years, but he will need 34 subscribers to do that. Sometime late this year, Pete will hire four editors, who will be headquartered in Hanover and will edit correspondents' copy and sell the service to newspapers around the world. He has a contract with the Associated Press to use their satellite network to transmit SouthNorth News Service stories.

Seen in USA Today in early May was a short note that Berl Bernhard is currently negotiating for the sale of his USFL Washington Federals to a large Florida real estate developer.

After graduating summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, "Pete" worked for a steel company, a management consulting firm, and as an administrator at Northwestern University. With a '16 father and an '82 son, Pete has served Dartmouth in many ways, including roles in the Third Century Fund, the Campaign for Dartmouth, and the Wisconsin and Chicago Alumni Associ- ations.
