The class of '69 has remained virtually incommunicado once again this month with the exception of two of us.
John Ruder writes from Salt Lake City to say that he is just finishing the residency program in plastic surgery. He insists that repairing Cabbage Patch dolls was not part of the program. Skiing this winter was great, he reports, and he says that he would love to hear from any of you passing through the area. His address in SLC is a bunch of numbers: 3675 East 3820 South. That sounds more like map coordinates than a street address, but that's the way they do it out there. The ZIP, by the by, is 84109. There is one part of his letter I'd like to quote from: "Dear Rick, I enjoy your column in the Alumni Magazine."
My second bit of news requires a preface. It seems that Esquire magazine will be publishing, in December 1984, the first annual Esquire Registry, honoring outstanding Americans under the age of 40; 5,000 persons were nominated for inclusion on this list, with only 50 of these being selected by the editorial board. As you may have already guessed, one of us made it. Mike Stratton was chosen as one of 50 young Americans who have made a difference. Mike has worked with the Outward Bound program here, hither, and beyond for close to 20 years and has made a significant contribution to the lives of scores of young people. Congratulations!
This wraps up my first season as class secretary. Remember, October 20 is the Harvard game in Hanover. Hope to see you there.
David L. Prentice '69 was chosen Class Newsletter Editor of the Year for 1984. After graduating from the Tuck School, he worked in New York City for two years and currently works for the Ted Bates advertising agency in Toronto. Because of his "sterling job" as editor of 1969's class newsletter he was elected president of the Newsletter Editors Association in 1978. This past year David spent "more hours than he is willing to admit" compiling a questionnaire to be distributed to his classmates. "It will be of interest to editors of all ages," said the citation, "even if the reasons for the interest may vary."
