Reg Pierce reports that he and Bob Kimball, both members of the Hanover, N.H., Rotary Club, welcomed Lowell Thomas, a Rotarian from Anchorage, Alaska, who was here recently visiting with daughter Anne and her husband, who are teaching at Kimb all Union. Lowell still operates his Talkeetna Flying Service in Alaska.

Also in Hanover were Jack and Katie Tyler, who were here for a two-day visit over Freshmen Parents Weekend in September. They revisited old haunts and discovered that his old dorm room in North Fayerweather currently houses three women. Bad timing again, says he, "born 40 years too soon." On the other hand, he found that facilities in Steele have not changed at all in the past 43 years. Yes, Jack, dorm rooms will be available to alums returning for our 40th in 1986.

Bob Hodes was married in December in Greenwich, Conn., to the former Cecilia Mendez, a graduate of Vassar and Harvard Law School. She is an associate in the Laura Colangelo Partnership, a lawyer-placement consulting firm. Bob is a partner and cochairman of the New York law firm of Willkie, Farr, and Gallagher.

A nice note from Marsh Rotter, of Mequon, Wise., reports of his recent work on the Greater Milwaukee United Way Campaign, the most successful in history, which was headed by classmate Tom McCollow, who is chairman of the board of The Milwaukee Journal. Tom's efforts earned him the applause of the entire community.

A Wall Street Journal article reports that Dick Young has resigned as president of Houghton-Mifflin Company, one of this country's premier textbook publishing firms. He had been a marketing executive for Polaroid before joining Houghton to oversee its move into electronic software. With the resurgence of the textbook market, Houghton's basic business, he feels that "it would be imprudent not to take advantage to reaffirm textbook supremacy in this company" and as chosen not to attempt to manage operations with which he said he has had limited experience.

jack Whitman has sent us a newspaper account of a speech that was given at Babson College last fall by John Emery, chief execu tive officer of Emery Air Freight, on the subject "Managing a Growth Company in the 1980s." John is on the board of several other corporations and is a past president of the New York Sales Executives Club and the Wings Club. He has received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Manhattan College

We are getting more and more notes about classmates retiring from their life's work in teaching or school administration. EugeneVadeboncoeur has just retired from the Pairfax County school system and has recently moved to Herndon, Va. Bob Brodie retired last February after 33 years as a teacher and school administrator in the San Jose, Calif., area. He has moved to Langley, Wash., on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound, where he really enjoys fishing.

Walt and Mary Snickenberger have to put up with difficult working conditions at Southern Methodist. Last year, they suffered the long trials of a trip to Tokyo to watch SMU play its traditional football rival, the University of Houston. This past December they went to Hawaii to watch SMU defeat Notre Dame in the Hula Bowl. Son Walt Jr. (Princeton '75) and his wife, Wendy '76, were able to go with them to share the sun and surf. Surely it was a good way to break up the academic year. I trust they also hit a few golf balls between the lava flows to break up the tedium. Hanover is looking forward to our traditional '46 golf match this spring, when Walt and Mary come back to the Upper Valley for their annual visit.

It was great to hear from old roommate Glenn "Tramp" Hartranft of Mendham, N.J., who says he is still alive and kicking. He also keeps in touch with Bob Hooper and is looking forward to a return visit to Hanover this winter.

Harlah and Sukey Brumsted made it back to Hanover in December for the DOC's 75th anniversary celebration. He says that it was a special delight to see Wil and Barbara Bull at the anniversary luncheon. Wil has just retired from teaching high school biology and chemistry and coaching skiing in Burlington, Vt.

Congratulations are in order to Bob Levinson, who was elected to the board of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations in December. He also has just been elected as chairman of the board of the Harlem School for the Arts.

Paul Bristol of Montpelier says that life continues to be very good. Just back from a Realtor convention in Hawaii, he has other trips planned for Cincinnati, Reno, Washington, . and New Orleans. In between these business trips, Paul and Peggy plan to visit their two children and six grandchildren in Dallas. Paul also is president of the Montpelier Rotary Club. He is planning to make the Harvard game in Cambridge next fall to celebrate the big 60th birthday.

Best regards. Please keep in touch.
