I hope Old Man Winter will have blown by you by the time you read this. It looks as if no region of the country was spared his cold breath. As someone remarked, you won't have to buy frozen orange juice this year because that's the way the oranges come now.
Shirley Brown wrote to inform me that after a six-year bout with cancer, Denny Brown had succumbed on December 14. Jim Fowler delivered the eulogy at the ceremony. Our condolences to Shirley and the children.
Ken Roman made the news again with the announcement of his becoming president of Ogilvy and Mather Worldwide, the largest operating unit of the Ogilvy Group. Congratulations, Ken!
You might have noticed that the Alumni Fund is in full swing. As you are undoubtedly aware, the goals this year are an even $12 million in cash and 70 percent participation. The increased dollar objective is 15 percent greater than last year, and the participation level is pegged at three points higher than the results a year ago. Obviously, we can make Dick McDonough's job just that much easier by contributing now rather than later. It would also reduce mailing costs, alleviate the postman's burden, and eliminate some of those sleepless nights that the staff encounter.
Hugh Lefkowitz was presented a certificate of recognition by Mayor George Voinovich of Cleveland for his "superb and extraordinary service performed in the recruitment of executive personnel for the City of Cleveland" and for "meritous public service performed above and beyond the call of duty." Hugh is manager of the employment department of the Premier Industrial Corporation in Cleveland. Nice going, Hugh.
Remember, the Alumni Fund needs you!
