October was a banner month for '43 mini-reunions and other activities. Fifteen class members, including honorary Nancy Elliott, turned out for the reception, dinner, Chesapeake Bay boat ride, and Dartmouth-Navy football game in the Baltimore area October 3-4. The total, including spouses and friends, was 25, occupying three tables at the Hyatt Regency dinner.

Leslie and Don Taylor, who organized the event for '43, arrived late owing to airplane difficulties, but from all reports it was a gala event (except the outcome of the football game).

Among those who attended were BradCopeland, Bob Costello, Mary and Dr.Koo Delaney, Lia and Bill Glovsky (who celebrated his 65th birthday and had ten members of his clan in attendance), GailGrant from Florida, DJ and Bud Hall,Phil Harmon, and Hal Lindley and friend Marj Boley.

Also, Jan and Farmer Mead, Lorraineand Eddie O'Brien, Phyliss and John(Jug) O'Connor, Anne and Dr. Bill Schumacher, and Betty and John Walton.

Two weeks later, at the "official" mini-reunion, also organized by Les and DonTaylor, there were 43 classmates who showed up for the 43rd gathering of '43s in Hanover. That may not be accurate, but the numbers are nice. Including wives and friends, the total turnout for one or another of five weekend events was 78.

First there was the Friday night October 17 get-together at the Hanover Inn. The following morning there was the class meeting in the Smoyer Lounge of Thompson Arena. Many class members sat in the same section (15 yard line) for the football game against Harvard. That evening there was a class dinner at the Inn, and on Sunday Dotty and Fred Lent hosted a brunch at the Dartmouth Outing Club House.

At the Saturday class meeting, head agent Fred Stockwell announced awards in two categories for 14 class members who devoted sterling efforts to the Alumni Fund drive.

The awards, 10-inch wooden replicas of Dartmouth Hall, went to the College Trustee (and acting treasurer) Bob Field,Jim Oppenheimer in Minnesota, JackTroster in California, and Bob Lappin in Massachusetts for their work on the leadership gifts campaign.

Also honored for Alumni Fund work were Dick Lansburg, Bob McQueen,John Robinson, Charlie Arnstein, DonCrance, Harvey Daniels, Charlie Donovan, Jack Burleigh, Howie Geer, and BudWiggin.

Also at the class meeting, Popular BobClark gave his usual incomprehensible treasurer's report.

Incidentally, Fred Stockwell's wife, Marge, is recovering from an angina attack, and Bob Clark recently was featured in a lengthy profile in his hometown newspaper, the Keene Sentinel. Bob was mayor of Keene, N.H., 1970-1971.

In California, Jim Adams and JackTroster have formed a Dartmouth alumni club in support of Jeff Kemp '81, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. They

have recruited at least ten other alumni and alumnae in the area for the fan club. Paul Parker, who retired in April as executive vice president of General Mills, Inc., has joined the Minneapolis, Minn., office of hill and Knowlton, an international public relations firm, as a senior consultant.

During the fall months, Bill Burr made it to Hanover from Louisville, Ky., for two football games and had a New Hampshire Hall reunion with Fred Stockwell, Dick Wood, and Dick Proctor. Bill was reported to have bought some property in Canaan,. N.H.

Lucy and Dick Proctor and Freda andFred Richardson were among those at the mini-reunion. The Proctors left for Winter Park, Fla., three days later, and the Richardsons left for Naples, Fla., on November 6.

Nora and George Graham made a trip to Alaska in June and attended a cookout sponsored by the Anchorage Dartmouth Club. Incidentally, George has agreed to be chairman of the class's 45th reunion in 1988. Don't laugh. That's only 19 months away.
