20 North Wacker Drive Chicago, IL 60606 Many '58s love boats and the water. The Annapolis outing had it all. Imagine a freshening breeze over calm Cheasa-peake waters, the top of an orange sun setting in the western sky, lights from the Naval Academy just visible across the bay, and a jazz beat from a band on the deck below. For '58s, fun and fellowship softened the defeat. The group was unanimous in its praise of the delights of Baltimore's reborn harbor.

The '58s I spotted at Annapolis were Ron Zwart, Larry Bill, John Whitely, BobGilges, Jerry Manne, Dick Frisch, TedHarris, Walt Vail, George Failmezger, JoeJacquet, and Tom Jackson.

Football fans will recall when Lou Turner, the Klapper brothers, and a few good men were steamrollered by Navy. Dartmouth played hard at Annapolis but lacked the physical matchups. The Big Green never gave up but was just overpowered.

Looking ahead, you now have your 1987 diaries. Turn to June and write in "Hanover" June 15-17, 1987, for our 30th reunion, joined by the classes of 1956 and 1957. Take it from me, reunions are more relaxed and comfortable as you get older. Few people have anything to prove and no one really cares anyhow. Enjoy conversation and getting reacquainted. Allow the beauties of Hanover to roll over you. Don't miss it. The complaint at every reunion it was over too soon.

It is my sad responsibility to report that Aaron W. Morrell died September 10 in San Francisco. An obituary will appear in another issue of this magazine.

Bob Jaffee recently married Debbie Scott Simmons. Bob is on the faculty of the Peddie School, Hightstown, N.J., where he is director of alumni relations. Bob holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University.

What is the nearest thing in business to a knight ready to do battle? One candidate would be "an established merger advisor," which is the way the Wall StreetJournal described Pete Jacquith. Pete advised Seagram Company in the 1981 donneybrook when Mobil Corporation, DuPont Company, and Seagram all tried to take over Conoco, Inc. Presto, Seagram didn't get Conoco but wound up as the largest shareholder of DuPont! To obtain this talent, Bear Sterns and Company made Pete managing director and the head of their corporate financial operations in Los Angeles. Peter holds a law degree and enjoyed halcyon days with Lazard, Freres and Company, where he was a top partner in mergers and acquisitions. Congratulations, Peter.

Joe Jacquet promises he will attend the 30th reunion. He and Judy are planning a summer South American trip to Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil. Joe is the purchasing manager for Digital Equipment in Londonderry, N.H.

Larry Bill says Bruce Gemberling recently remarried and is operating his own company. Larry looked fit in Annapolis. He is delighted to be back in New Hampshire in his new position as executive VP, discount brokerage, at Bank East Corporation in Manchester.

John Whiteley drove to Annapolis from York, Pa. At the 30th reunion, John will be looking for Mel Wellstead, DaveClarke, Ted Foote, Pete Spiegel and DaveWhitmore. John is also seeking musicians for the 30th reunion band. Don Wendlant and Eric Kunzel, Cincinnati Pops director, will both be in Hanover for the 30th, eager to direct you. Start working on your lip now and contact John at 1116 Detwiler Drive, York, PA 17404.

Paul Wysard is the new vice president and treasurer of Punahou School, Honolulu, Hawaii. The school is the largest independent secondary school in the USA, enrolling 3,700 in K-12.

Thanks again to Bob Gilges for helping organize the Annapolis outing. Bob and Carroll are enjoying life in Greenwich, Conn., where they attempt to keep track of three horses. Phil Bell and Stuart Gord are the friends Bob will be looking for at the 30th.

A great color photo of Rob Goodell and Don McCree taken against lush Vancouver foilage doesn't appear here. Picture two slim, fit gents smiling ear to ear. Bob is now consulting in marketing and strategy, primarily for new product introductions. Goodell Company is located at 1491 West 26th Avenue, Vancouver, 8.C., Canada V6H 2BC. (603/738-7524.) The Goodells have a son at Dartmouth, class of 1990, and another at Williams, class of 1989. Rob and Ann Shirley really like Vancouver. Shirley is director of nursing at a children's hospital and supervises 600 nurses. Incidentally, McCree was not remarketing himself in Vancouver. He was there on business and for Expo 86.
