I encourage all classmates to heed head agent Barry Alperin's call to support the 1986 Alumni Fund Drive as we lead up to the 25th reunion in 1987 with a goal that will undoubtedly be in excess of $1 million. The goal for 1986 has been set at $169,000, slightly less than $13,000 more than the amount raised in 1985. In an effort to raise our sights both for 1986 and for the big 1987 reunion campaign, the class has fixed the Key '62 gift level at $500. It is hoped additional classmates will join the 111 who earned a Key '62 glass in each of the past two years. I also wish to acknowledge the great job that Bruce Feldman did last year and continues to do as regional head agent, which was mistakenly not reported.
I recently heard from Jay Parsons, who is deputy representative and senior advisor on population for the United Nations Fund for Population Activities in Bangkok, Thailand. Jay wrote that he recently attended his first Dartmouth Club of Bangkok get-together at Nitya Pibulsonggram's house, meeting Prasong Sukhum '53 arid Lew Pauker '67. Jay hosted a dinner reception for Professor and Mrs. Vincent Malmstrom, of Dartmouth's geography department, with Tri Devakul '65 and David Karukin in attendance as well as Jay's daughter and other women who are applying for admission to the class of 1990. Jay and Nitya again extend a warm welcome to anyone from the Dartmouth community passing through Bangkok.
Alan Bryant has been named manager of the relations operation for General Electric's Nuclear Energy Operations, headquartered in San Jose, Calif. The' relations operation conducts a variety of industrial relations functions for the business headquarters and satellite operating locations. These include employment, manpower development, placement services, and community relations as well as managing compensation and benefits programs and providing health and safety services. Al, who is a 20-year veteran with General Electric, may look familiar to any of you who read Business Week and other periodicals, as he has recently been featured in full-page ads for Performance Systems Corporation stating why General Electric adopted that company's "positive discipline," a performance management system that has been adopted by many of America's bestmanaged companies.
General Mills, Inc., of Minneapolis recently announced that Charles Gaillard, formerly general manager of the Big G division, a package food unit, was named corporate senior vice president of the food company.
Nelson Orringer recently represented Dartmouth at the inauguration of James J. Casteen III as 11th president of University of Connecticut at Storrs, Conn.
