As I scribble this scrabble, the Yanks have won four in a row, and summer vacation is just around the corner. The snowbirds have almost all vacated our sunny shores, and already we Miamians are looking forward to summer vacations in the mountains, far from our B-52-like flying fossils.

Speaking of airborne anachronisms, class president Louis "Josh" Josselyn and family recently stopped by Chez Doyle for a booze cruise down the intracoastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale and a peek at the weekly "Hot Bod" contest at Dirty Nellie's Seaside Bar and Grille. Josh is in the insurance business in Nashua, N.H., but may well have moved to Winchendon, Mass., to help Pat run her family's pharmacy by "press time," as we say in the trade.

Other snowbirds in South Florida this winter included Jack and Cathy JoyceBrennan with Will and Cara in tow. We visited them at Sanibel Island and, believe it or not, had an enjoyable time bird watching (see how different the sights are in Sanibel than in Fort Lauderdale?). Jack is chief financial officer at Vanguard Group, a large mutual fund in Valley Forge, Pa., and Cathy works part-time at nearby Bryn Mawr.

Following up on a earlier report, RobSwenson was recently named chairman of Mesaba Aviation in Minnesota. Mesaba operates a commuter airline feeding into Minneapolis.

Also as a follow-up to "names in the news," Dick "Richard" Monkman has been named deputy commissioner of taxation in the Alaska Department of Revenue. In that capacity, Dick will help manage programs such as revenue forecasting, oil and gas tax administration, distribution of permanent fund dividends, child support enforcement, and licensing programs.

On the Broadway beat, Paul Lazarus is directing Personals, an off-Broadway musical that has received very favorable reviews from the New York critics. I hope Paul doesn't come across any of Peter Jeton's Boston Phoenix personal ads in the process.

On the serious side, when writing this column each month I realize how diverse and talented our class is. From investment bankers to quilters, we are a fascinating group. Certainly we owe at least some of our abilities and success to Dartmouth. Please remember the Alumni Fund, and please take a minute to tell me what's new in you life. If our paths don't cross, have a good summer.
