By the time this gets in print, Class Officers Weekend, abbreviated to the acromyn COW in popular parlance, will be fairly ancient history. Enough happened, however, worth reporting.
Item one: we had a full delegation which was more than some classes of our vintage could muster. Item two: your secretary was honored with a Dartmouth Alumni Award. I understand that.Robin will run the text in the next issue of "The Twenty-Four Hour Notice." You are hereby warned that the recitals are vastly exaggerated. Item three: it was unanimously voted that, of course, we would have a 65th reunion in 1989, and why in the world had anybody ever suggested that there should be any doubt about it. Item four: we took specific action, subject to approval of the class as a whole, as to the disposition of $15,000 of surplus class funds at our 65th reunion to the College to establish the "Class of 1924 Public Service Career Panels" to be administered by the Office of Career and Employment Services.
Present at the class meeting were: Chinee Allen, Pete and A1 Wheatley,Roily and Edna Taylor, Dick Morin,Dave Dyche, Beatie Adams, Stan andBarbara Chittick, Wes Blake, Don Bartlett, and Ed and Betty Winsor. Robinand Ellen Robinson had been with us for the earlier part of the weekend but had to leave before the meeting.
A late item reports that Roland Gibson, economist, journalist, art patron, and collector, received an award which can best be described by quoting the final sentence of the citation: "For your unswerving purposefulness and your determination to seek the best and the newest, and for your faith in the benefits of aesthetic education, you are a recipient of a 1986 Distinguished Service Award from Potsdam College."
