As we of the north are contending with the icy winds that try hard to pierce the walls of our homes, we read with interest of those who have taken refuge in the Southland, even though they are having troubles about keeping comfortably warm down there at the time of this writing.
C.C. Hills is apparently comfortable in an efficiency apartment in Miami, a few miles from his daughter. He sees her almost daily. Incidentally, as she has three grandchildren, C.C. naturally is a thee-time great-grandfather. Congratulations, C.C. I ought to do a little research as to how many great-grandchildren the class of 1905 can boast. Drop your secretary a line so he can make a list. C.C.'s address is: 6320 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami 33138. Starting February 20 C.C. expects to circulate a bit in Florida to look up classmates, especially in the vicinity of Dunedin and Clearwater.
Roger and Jane Brown left January 20 for their regular haunts in Anna Maria. On their way they talked to Leon and Amy Smith in Fruitland. Amy was recovering from an illness. Through Edward Tuck '50 Roger learned that Ed's father and mother, John and Marion Tuck, have improved in health since coming to Florida. Roger has sent me a few snapshots taken last summer at reunion. Included is a good picture of our lately lost Fred Weston. Roger further reports the Clearwater-Dunedin '05ers are in reasonably good health. They are planning a reunion in Clearwater, February 22.
Another kind source of information from Florida is Fred Chase. He verifies some of the above information and adds these further items: Bill Blatner had written that he and Dorothy were flying to Palm Beach February 1 to stay for a month. They were having their car driven down. As a final bit of news: the Lillards were driving down (with daughter Virginia at the wheel) to arrive at Clearwater Beach on February 23.
So Florida will be fairly teeming with Dartmouth 1905 - one big happy family!
Florida is not the aim of all our northern travellers. "Cy" and Hilda White are taking off February 10 for an eight-week trip to the far West. Itinerary: Tucson, for a month, then to California, to La Mirada, to visit son Richard '39, a chemist with the Flintkote Paper Company in Los Angeles, next San Diego and Laguna Beach. Then back to Evanston, Ill., to visit daughter Margaret for two weeks; finally to Greenbrier, W. Va., for a special "shindig," and back home thereafter. Cy feels quite wisely that he is fortunate in having an active law practice to keep him busy (just as your secretary feels about his continued teaching).
A card from Ruth and Charlie Goodrich states that they were enjoying the warmth of Dunedin instead of the cold of New England. They spent Christmas in Staten Island with their daughter and family. They are to return north "with the robins."
Word has come that Ann Reid spent Christmas with her sister in Hull, Mass., and later was to leave her home in Ipswich for Florida.
Ida Parkinson, as I'm informed, is enjoying life in her new home. Address: 20 Hast Chestnut St., Walla Walla, Wash.
Change of address: Mrs. Henry K. Norton, 78 Macdougal St., New York, N. Y.
