As I start to write this column in the middle of August, one can only hope that when you read it in the middle of October the football season has started auspiciously and that this will truly be our season of content.
John Gillespie has planned an active mini-reunion schedule to be sure that, come what may in the football results, the social results will be outstanding. The Gillespies are entertaining all the '54s who find their way to Hanover for the Dartmouth/Holy Cross Game on October 10. For directions and information, call John in Hanover at 603/646-3326.
On the eve of the Harvard game in Cambridge the class of 195.4 will host a cocktail reception at its hospitality suite in the Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on October 16. The Harvard weekend is always an exciting two days and it's a great opportunity to see old friends and to meet our new president at the Boston dinner. The plans for Dartmouth Night weekend, October 30 through November 1, are as extensive as always. A pre-parade cocktail buffet and reception for the classy class of 1954 will take place in the Drake Room of the Hanover Inn from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. There is always plenty of food to go with the cocktails, so make your plans accordingly. The post bonfire reception for '54s will take place in Room 101 of the Hanover Inn. The annual class meeting will be convened at 9:30 on Saturday morning in Thayer Hall Lounge where a continental breakfast will be served. All classmates are invited to attend this meeting. Following the football game, the '54 reception will be at the Faculty Lounge in Hopkins Center. The weekend will end with muffins at Mullins from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. Dartmouth Night weekend will be great. Don't miss it!
It looks like more and more '54s are returning or planning to return to the Hanover area. I've heard through the grapevine that Jerry Barton and Dave Mandelbaum have made a commitment for a sizable parcel in Norwich. From all reports, there's enough land for the whole class to build on.
Dave Ransom, when last heard from, has been serving in a series of interim ministries, the last of which is at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Duluth. He served two six-month calls in a triple parish in Wil- liams-Bandette-Birchdale, Minn. Dave expected to return East this past June for his son Steve's wedding in Newport.
