The Annual Report of American Television and Communications Corporation is on my desk. Inside is an excellent photograph of Tryg Myhren, Chairman and CEO. As they say in the business, ATC and Tryg had a pretty good year. Group W was added to the stable that includes MTV, VHA&E, USA, and HBO. AT&C's Cinemax features Max Headroom, the star who neither sulks nor employs an agent. With revenues of $568 million, Tryg presides over a huge business empire that informs and entertains us from coast to coast. But it is only a rumor that he is paid 1 percent of gross revenue.
If there is one place that we should all visit this spring other than Hanover, it's the town where Greg Haines lives, Mystic, Conn. In full bloom, Mystic is unforgettable. Greg has just been promoted by General Dynamics Electric Boat Division in Groton, Conn. He is now division vice president, material. After Greg served three years in the Navy following Dartmouth and obtained an M.B.A. from the University of Rhode Island, he joined Electric Boat as a technical writer. Promotion followed promotion until he became director of purchasing in 1979. We are all aware of the problems in government contract purchasing, so it is good to know that Greg Haines is making sure that things go right for our subs.
A color photo of Joe and Judy Jacquet and Mark and Connie Gilmore taken at the Gilmore home in Buenos Aires will not appear in this magazine. Maybe next year we will print color. I can tell you that all four look terrific. Joe and Judy have previously traveled through South America to their great delight. This February they were in LaPaz, Bolivia; Buenos Aires; Mendoza, Tucuman, and Iguazu Falls, Argentina; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Manaus, Brazil. Judy says they love the jungle but do not recommend sleeping there in a hammock.
Mark Gilmore is the Director-Gerente General of Banco Irving Austral. Yes, that is Irving Trust. Mark and Connie are on a three to five year assignment, if you happen to be headed for Buenos Aires.
In closing, I want to thank the lady who typed all these columns, every person who sent in material for the column, and the entire class of 1958. Have a wonderful summer!
