Where will you be on Monday, June 15? That is the day the 30th reunion of the class of 1958 kicks off. Perhaps you will be attending the professional school luncheon at noon that day. A bit later, you might be at the tee and run into JohnArmstrong, Rod Frates, Buck Latimore, or other class golf enthusiasts as they prepare for the golf tournament with the classes of 1956 and 1957 at the Hanover Country Club.

When the band assembles that evening for the Alumni Parade, Don Wendlandt will raise his baton. We can count on John Whiteley and Andy Nichols to step off with the count. Who knows but AlAkeson, Ernie Zwick, Pete Van, GlenKirk, and Phil Schmitter may be in the crowd.

By the time you sit down at the Thompson Arena for the Alumni Dinner, you will be ready to join Paul Zeller as he conducts the Alumni Glee Club in a stirring "Men of Dartmouth." Just as they did 30 years ago, such voices as those of Bob Gilges, Marty Carter, Phil Stoddard, and John Edwards will quicken your pulse. Out in the audience such alums as Herb Tews, Chuck Panettiere, LinkMitchel, and Clem Marks will be mingling with the classes of '56 and '57 as they remember Zeller-directed Glee Clubs featuring such immortals as Dean "the Smoo" Shelton, Tom Marvel, A l Welty, and John Wheatley.

You wouldn't want to miss the spectacle along the banks of the Connecticut of the class crew races. With all the extra muscle accumulated in 30 years of vigorous sitting, the class of 1958 must prevail. After all, we are the younger class. The rumor that a booth selling sundials for timing the race and hammocks should be ignored. Your mighty legions could include Ted Merritt, Fred Pitzner, JohnPhillips, Walt Vail, and Mauri Mitsui (someone has to discipling this bunch of wild men) and many more. How could you miss so much fun!

The announcement that Jay Heinrichs has been appointed the editor of this magazine reminds me that we need your nominations for class officers and membership on the executive committee. Please send your ideas to me at the above address or to Ron Snow, Box 709, Concord, NH 03301-0709.

When we meet, around the tent or wherever Dartmouth men gather, we might consider this quotation from John W. Hennessey Jr., Tuck School, from a New York Times article: "Dartmouth is a microcosm of the national debate, encouraged by the Reagan Administration, over the ideals of equality vs. meritocracy. The issue is how broad we want our definition to be of educating the best and brightest in our society."

Bob Keller, who practices orthopedic surgery in Belfast, Maine, is chairman of the executive committee of the Maine Medical Association.

Joel Einhorn works for a joint venture between IBM and Merrill Lynch which is perfecting a system to broadcast stock market information to personal computers on brokers' and investors' desks. Joel's title is vice president and general counsel of IMNET. He hopes to see Ken Kaplan at the reunion.

Bill Glos is vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, New York.

Larry Hampton, one of several classmates who has announced his "retirement," in addition to consulting in his field of expertise, is also writing and serving as the advisor to the managing direc tor and board of the London Symphony Orchestra. Two of Larry's articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal in 1986: One regarding licensing arrangements for new product lines and another the contract needed by an expatriate manager. As one who has litigated over many executive broken dreams, 1 offer Larry's apt

quote to all who work for a corporation. "Many American companies find it quite normal to terminate even the most senior executives on short notice and with little compassion, even though the reasons for termination may have little or nothing to do with the employee's own performance." For any executive, "such a termination could be disastrous." No one said it would be easy.

See you in Hanover.
