It's time to get the rust off the quill. April was notable for my missing the deadline for the summer edition. A paucity of news! Fortunately the news pipeline has refilled a bit. Early May was Dartmouth busy—Class Officers Weekend followed quickly by the annual dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Eastern Massachusetts. Both occasions featured touching farewell addresses by President McLaughlin and the latter included an inspiring talk by new Head Football Coach Buddy Teevens '79. It was fun to have Mary Teevens at our table with Jack and Dodie Boyle and Frank Logan.
Noted during a perusal of a recent edition of the Bowdoin Alumni Magazine that JackBoyages's son Rick, who graduated from Bowdoin in 1985, was recently named head basketball coach of Bates College at the tender age of 25. Rick was a guard on Bowdoin's varsity basketball team and served as an assistant coach at Babson College prior to the Bates appointment. The article makes reference to father Zack having run the Wakefield, Mass., youth basketball league for about 30 years.
My story about Jim Branch and his ski mountain company prompted a nice note from George Sverdrup in Oslo, Norway. After 28 years in the beer industry, George has moved into the group corporate headquarters of Nora Industrier A.S., where he is now the vice president in charge of the company's internationalization, dealing in technology, joint ventures, etc. One recent task involved the sale of brewing technology for non-alcoholic beer to Beijing.
The office of Bequests & Trusts m Blunt Alumni Center is now stocked with two '52s. Frank Logan announced in May the appointment of Angus Russell as associate director of the Dartmouth Bequests & Trusts Program. Angus is leaving his law partnership with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia which he joined in 1958. He and Liz are relocating to Hanover, where Angus took up his new post on July 1.
Chemical New York Corporation announced recently the election of Bob Callander to the board of directors of Texas Commerce Bancshares. The news release mentioned that banker Bob is also an officer and director of Chemical New York Corporation.
Another news item has Sacramento, Calif., County Supervisor Jim Streng among the Dartmouth Alumni who recently congregated in old Sacramento for a lunch at Fat City organized by State Senator Quentin Kopp '49. The affair was described as the first local gathering of Dartmouthians (yuck!) in a decade.
Ken Roman has moved up to the post of chairman of the Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide unit of Ogilvy Group, Inc. Ken presides over the company's largest ad agency unit.
Congratulations to class head agent BillBreed for surpassing the 35-year Dartmouth Alumni Fund record.
No early retirement news has dribbled in for the past several months, so I decided to make my own. I have decided to bow out of the accounting profession in June 1988 when I will have completed 32 great years with Price Waterhouse.
Another '52 has passed away. RolandGlasser died of a heart attack in June while on a safari in Kenya, Africa. Bill Montgomery attended the services.
