I occasionally hear the complaint, "Hey, Eric, how come you never mention anyone from the West Coast in any of your columns?" This being a reunion year, and thus an election year for yours truly, I have decided to honor this simple request, just this once. The following column could easily be entitled, "The West." Here goes:

Jolie Epstein, who has visited California several times in her life, is currently attending NYU Law School. After graduation, she plans to visit California.

Wendy Hunsinger was recently married. You won't hear her husband's name from me, however, since I only heard of the wedding third-hand from someone who had read about it in The New York Times. In keeping with the theme of this month's column, I'm sure that the wedding was also featured in the San Diego Sun. Anyway, Wendy is a buyer for Tiffany & Co., in New York. I'm not sure exactly what a buyer does, but I guess if you ever need someone to buy something for you at Tiffany, Wendy is the one to ask.

Working our way westward, BobHughes, who is originally from Oshkosh, Wis., is currently attending Stanford Law School. Bob spent the summer in Boston, where he lived with Mara Rudman. He is, however, paying me a large sum of money to leave him out of my column, so we'll just move right along.

Also at Stanford are Regina Figge and Tor Raubenheimer.Regina is working for her Ph.D. in engineering, while Tor is doing the same in geology. Upon graduation, both plan to give up their respective careers, and open a Tiffany branch on campus. This way, they figure,Wendy Hunsinger will have an excuse to come visit them.

Kristen Hege took a year off from UCSF Med School to travel to Southeast Asia. I'm not sure what it is that she did over there, but I did overhear something about a "Tiffany's Bangkok." Kristen is back now, and in her fourth year of UCSF. After graduation, Kristen plans to go into a residency in California Medicine, specializing in hot tub-associated trauma. Says Kristen, "You know, the hot tub is a lot more dangerous than most people realize. You get that thing going, with all those bubbles and stuff, and you're just asking for trouble."

I believe that I have now proven that I do not favor the East Coast. I have given you a fall column, exclusively devoted to our classmates on the West Coast and their insipid little lives, which in no way equal the vibrant and colorful mosaic that is life in the East. However, like Charles Kuralt, I will continue to travel this land of ours, reporting back on classmates around the country. Next month, it's "Dartmouth in Des Moines." See you then.
