So tell me, what is it about Minneapolis that causes its citizens to gush with pride? It's far from everywhere and not really on the way to anywhere. Nevertheless, wandering natives always seem to return and newcomers don't seem to leave (despite the fact that city's waitresses put ice cubes in wine and its snow plows outnumber its cabbies).

Like Ric Drill-Mellum. Ric teaches and coaches hockey at his alma mater, the Blake School. (How many of us dare imagine that our high schools would accept us back?) Ric and his wife, Laurie, live two blocks away from Page Polk Lipe and her husband, Jay. Page is skating school director for the Figure Skating Club of Minneapolis and chronicler of Dartmouth types in the area. (Were it not for Page and for fax machines, I would not make this month's column deadline. You say, "No great loss." I say "Thank you, Page.")

Steve Smith is an intern (or resident, or whatever you guys are called those of us outside of medicine are constantly amazed at the number of synonyms for "overworked and under-paid") at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Scott Slater is active in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Dartmouth Club, and helped plan a recent "Dartmouth Classic" at the local horse track. We have yet to learn what or who participated in the race. Thoroughbreds? Recent grads? Local applicants? (Jon Snider and wife were spotted betting the trifecta.) More importantly, Scott was married on September 17.

Bart Littlefield works for Northwest Airlines, overseeing the sales and marketing of Northwest's computerized reservation system. Helen Cleveland lives right down the street from Page. (So tell me Helen, do Page and Jay mow their own lawn?)

Bobby Brown (a former Minnesotan) married Su-Moon Paik '81 in Stowe over the Labor Day weekend. Bob and Su-Moon live in San Francisco, but chose to wed in Vermont because they worried that their guests would get lost on the way to the wedding either in the fog or in the Marina Lounge. Bob works for Chrysler, Su-Moon, for an import/export firm.

Brad Koenig and Lauren Gray were married on September 17 in San Francisco. (How do ya figure?) Brad works for Goldman Sachs and he and Lauren have a home in Menlo Park.

And finally, Bill and Lisa Goodspeed are busy with a new daughter, Anna. Storm, their dog, is a little jealous of the newcomer. Bill, a consultant with McKinsey in Stamford, Conn., is a little jealous of those of us who get a full night's sleep.
