Our 1985 class trip up the Rhine River on the Britannia by 42 classmates and wives is still a subject of reminiscing at '37 gatherings. Fran Fenn and Ben Doran recently announced by letter a second class trip on the US Universe, July 3-17, 1988, to Alaska, setting sail from Vancouver. Places to be visited en route are Anchorage, Columbia, Glacier, Valdez, Whittier, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Vancouver, Victoria. Special programs, presentations, and guest lectures on art, culture, geology, and history will be. offered as well as classical music concerts, string quartets, and guest artists. The trip is being arranged by Dick Turner of Turner World Travel, who will accompany the tour. Space is limited so call Dick Turner at 201/233-3900 for information.
Your secretary had already planned an '88 trip to Kenya in March, so Carl and Carolyn will pass on this class trip.
We are in the process of checking and reviewing names and addresses for a new class directory to resemble the 1982 Green directory. It will be printed by The Cabinet Press, Inc., under the supervision of BillRotch. A class of 1937 directory was printed by the College for our 50th Reunion, but we hope to print one that's more complete and up-to-date. Please, classmates and widows, send any recent changes in addresses, phone numbers, etc., to Carl Erdman at the address at the head of this column for inclusion in the new edition.
While Dana and Lynn Prescott were attending the San Francisco Dartmouth Night celebration they met Lynn M. Tracy '86, a '37 scholar, who is continuing her education in pursuit of a law degree at Hastings in San Francisco. Dana said she is "happy and as enthusiastic as ever," but missed receiving the Mint Bag. The problem is that one alum can't be a member of two classes, but Fran will see that she gets some Mint Bags.
The Washington Post Magazine of last November 15 had an excellent in-depth lead article on "Citizen Koop, the Report on the Surgeon General" by Sandra Boodman. I will send it to Alumni Councilor Lem Bowen, who is a member of the honorary degree committee.
President Fran Fenn appointed an ad hoc committee to come up with an appropriate expression of gratitude and appreciation to recognize Rog Allen and Bib Bankart who have served our class and Dartmouth over a long period of years. The chairman of the committee, Charlie Blaisdell, reports that our class presented Rog and Ginny Allen with a compact-disc stereo to complement their stereo equipment and are providing Bib and Katie Bankart with a trip to the Holiday Hotel on Paradise Island, Baha- mas, a place they have looked forward to visiting for a long time. Our best wishes to these guys and girls who have meant so much to all of -us in '37.
A note of sadness from Blais is the death of our loyal classmate Ronnie Brown on November 30 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Maine.
