At the Alumni Luncheon on June 13th, Ben Doran presented a check from the class of 1937 to the president of the class of 1987, Peter Murane, in the amount of $1987 to be invested until their 50th reunion. Ben received a letter from Peter telling him that the gift was placed in trust in the College's AE-10 endowment for the specified 50 years. The statisticians may determine the value of the gift in 2037.

Our class is continuing to receive accolades for our 50th reunion gifts. VQX, a college publication, reports "The class of 1937 marked its 50th reunion with a gift of almost $900,000 which, with other pledges and deferred gifts, brought the class total to $6.7 million."

Gardner Cook explained his absence from reunion. He and Ellie were invited to attend the Garter Day ceremonies at St. Georges Chapel at Windsor Castle, along with all the Royal Family. They also attended the races at Ascot and were in the Royal Enclosure requiring formal dress.

While many of us have retired and are using our energy and talents in other directions, some are continuing to practice their professions. Dana Douglass of Bethel, Maine, is continuing to work as a surveyor for the large Sunday River ski area south of Rumford according to Bibs Bankart, who visited him this summer.

Three classmates wasted little time after graduation before marrying. The three, who were also roommates, were BenDoran, Ad Parker, and Bill Heroy. Their weddings occurred in the fall of 1937. I learned this bit of information when I saw the three couples having breakfast together at reunion. On August 28, 1987, 50 years to the day, Ben and Marge Doran celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their friends at the Montclair Country Club. Bill and Dot Heroy were present with a good representation from 1937.

The exhibition, "From Titian to Sargent: Dartmouth Alumni and Friends Collect," will be seen at Hood Museum of Art from September through November. A rarely-exhibited Titian masterpiece, "The Penitent Magdalen," c. 1570, is lent by Dick and JulieRush. Dick has presented many beautiful paintings to Dartmouth, a number of which are on exhibition at the present time. On a recent visit to the Hood, Carolyn and I enjoyed seeing these gifts, including "Portrait of an English Gentleman" by Cornelius Johnson and "Centaur and Bear" by Emmanuel Fremont.

Sculptures purchased through the Phyllis and Bertram Geller 1937 Memorial Fund are also being exhibited at the Hood; 1937 is well represented by these gifts of our classmates.
