Readers of the Boston Globe October 11 New Hampshire section found a fine story on Bill Rotch, his family, and the MilfordCabinet. Over the years we have read many of his forthright editorials appearing in his weekly newspaper. The following quote is from the Globe story. "Rotch theoretically retired last March when he turned 70, he says wryly. He turned the management of the weekly newspaper over to his daughter Elizabeth, and the Cabinet's printing business over to his son John—the seventh generation of the family to run the Cabinet. 'I wrote an editorial saying I was changing from the editorial we to I,' he said. But he still writes the editorials, and that spills over to a 50-years-ago or 75-years-ago feature. At a time when many of Rotch's fellow weekly publishers in New Hampshire are selling out to newspaper chains, the family is firmly set in the business. This summer, Rotch says proudly, the eighth generation worked at the newspaper.

"After graduation from Dartmouth in 1937, Rotch went back to Milford and the newspaper in 1938. Except for a four-year vacation for World War 11, he's been at it ever since.

"With only a hint of a smile, Rotch said the newspaper's big stories have included a campaign against an opening day for trout season and a partially successful attempt to change the name of a New Hampshire mountain peak. I don't know if you would call those successful campaigns, he said with a laugh, but those little things help."

Bill Rotch has been a loyal and helpful member of 1937, always ready with advice and skill in printing class lists or whatever we asked of him.

Mini-reunion weekend October 9 and 10 was enjoyed by all classmates, wives, and widows. While the attendance of 55 persons was not as large as previous years, due to the recent 50th, the spirit was high.

Dates for future fall mini-reunions were set for the approximate same dates for the next three years to enable the committee to better plan logistics. The dates are: 1988, Sept. 16-17 (Pennsylvania); 1989, September 15-16 (Princeton); 1990, Sept. 14-15 (Pennsylvania).

A highlight of the class meeting was the presentation of two resolutions to two class widows, Polly McLane and Pat Olson.

Polly McLane's resolution stated: "Whereas, from 1971 to 1987 Polly McLane, with singular devotion, did lead the class in enrolling the widows of its departed classmates, among whom is Peter, in support of the college, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Dartmouth's class of 1937, with great affection, express to Polly its thanks for her dedicated service as Widows' Secretary, to the class and to the College."

Pat Olson's resolution stated: "Whereas, from 1977 to 1987, Patricia R. Olson, as its Memorial Gifts Chairman, with singular devotion, did lead the class in celebration of the memory of the Long Roll of its members, among them, our classmate, Robert, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Dartmouth's class of 1937, with great affection, express to Pat Olson its thanks for her dedicated service to the class and to the College."
