Enjoyed a chance meeting in November in the Hanover Inn with Bill and Jan Spoor who were visiting the College in connection with the "Spoor Dialogues." These lectures, sponsored by the Pillsbury Company in honor of Bill, its former CEO, have included talks this fall by Pete du Pont and Jesse Jackson and certainly are providing a most important intellectual stimulus on campus as the election approaches.
Bob and Jackie Kimball enjoyed a marvelous trip to Switzerland and Italy this past fall, traveling on their own to Zurich, Zermatt, Grindelwald, and Lugano, then joining a group for a "grand tour" of Italy, including Rome, Florence, Venice, Pisa, and the Amalfi coast.
Also in Hanover for Club Officers Weekend were Bill and Roberta DeStefano. Bill is currently the president of the Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod.
Although the game results were disappointing, Mary and I had the chance for enjoyable visits with classmates at two away football contests this fall. In Durham, N.H., for the UNH game we chatted with Phil and Priscilla Osberg, as well as with Charlie Holt '45, former governor Walt Peterson '47, and Ray Truncellito '49. Phil is a longtime University of Maine faculty member. Priscilla, a UNH graduate, undoubtedly experienced a low-key measure of satisfaction as the Wildcats handled the Green easily. At the Cornell game, we had a long chat with our newsletter editor, Harlan Brumsted and his wife Evelyn. Harlan is most anxious to include in the newsletter in-depth features on classmates who have had recent and interesting out-of-the-ordinary experiences, major career moves, etc. So please call or write to him at 607/2577992 or 203 White Park Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
The home football games last fall saw numerous classmates returning. Among those here for the Yale and Brown games were Bob Bensing, Clark Judge, Jack Carter,Robbie Smith, Jack Underhill, Art Young,Don Furber, Harvey White, Bob Clifton,Len Wilson, Will Wheeler, Chris Chisholm, Ed Blatt, and James Joiner. DuneFitchet reports that he and Ruth were joined at the Princeton game by Don and Margaret Furber and their guests, Al Foster '45 and his wife Marge. Al is in the real estate business in Naples, Fla.
Also in Hanover for the Brown weekend were Dr. Andy Thomson and his wife, Peggy. Andy, a member of the board of overseers at the Dartmouth Medical School, was able to combine meetings of the board with attendance at the game, the latter in the company of their daughter, Mary Thomson Renner '82 and son-in-law, Peter Renner '78.
Welles Fendrich, accompanied by his wife, Bobbie, was in town in mid-November as Welles met with College development officers in his newly-assumed role as our head class agent. He is currently in the process of organizing his team of assistant agents. If any of you are tapped by Welles for this important work, please say "yes" if at all possible.
