Difficult to believe, but a third classmate climbed nearly two-thirds of the way up Mt. Everest in Nepal last November. A green card from Jim Gilbert to newsletter editor Eddie O'Brien reported that Jim climbed to the 18,300-foot level during a three-week visit to Nepal. Fred Stockwell climbed to the 20,000-foot level last fall, and Bob andJoan Ehinger climbed to 8,000 feet also last November.

Jim reported he saw footprints in the snow, but couldn't determine whether they were Stockwell's or those of Yeti, the abominable snowman, because the footprints were two left feet.

In another astounding coincidence, EdIngraham sent greetings from Tasmania, where he was hobnobbing with the aborigines, and a few mails later came another greeting from Tasmania, this one from JimBoak. Apparently their paths didn't cross. Ed lives in Bethesda, Md., and Jim in Annapolis, Md.

Russ Sherburne reports he's finally given up working for the navy in Arlington, Va., and has moved to Altomonte Springs, near Orlando, Fla., and is teaching math and physics at the University of Central Florida.

Doc Fielding's wife, Sue, suffered a mild coronary January 27, but is swiftly on the mend atter two weeks in the hospital. It will mean a cutback in her activities, and this undoubtedly means that she and Doc won't be able to stage the magnificent reminiscences show that highlighted the class's 40th Reunion in 1983.

About the time you read this Ted Driscoll expects to be in Ireland with his horse trainer, possibly to add to his stable of race horses. When Eddie O'Brien heard about the trip, he arranged to have friends in Ireland meet Ted and persuade him to stay at Dromaland Castle at Newmarket-on-Fergus, near Shannon. Eddie says it's an ad venture.

The latest head count from 45th Reunion chairman George Graham is 227 "yes" responses, including 120 classmates, 34 "maybe" responses and 40 "no." George disclosed that he's persuaded language Prof. John Rassias, a brilliant teacher and showman, to stage a performance at the Center Theater in the Hop during the reunion festivities. George is still anxious to hear from those who haven't said yet whether they will join us in Hanover next June 13-15.

Mike Thurston cracked a couple of ribs in a skiing spill in Switzerland in January. Mike was skiing with Fred Lent and Margeand Fred Stockwell when he took the tumble during a "one last time" run down the slopes.

A telephone talk with Hex Harrigan in Sarasota, Fla., disclosed that Barb andCharlie Cusack visited him in February. Charlie had said last fall he intended to get away from Sunriver, Ore., and visit the Southeast, so Hex said he was expecting them.

The estate of the late Gene Roitman, who died in Italy in 1984, has donated records, music scores, and some original compositions to the Hopkins Center library. Gene was an accomplished musician and composer.

This is another reminder that we're seeking World War II and Korean conflict anecdotes for possible publication during our 45th Reunion. So shower down quickly! Also, Howie Leavitt wants suggestions for "Topics in Common" meetings during the reunion to exchange ideas and experiences on hobbies, occupations, recreation, or other interests. Howie's address: 115 Sand Hill Road, Amherst, MA 01002.

It's with great sadness we report the death of Alden M. "Denny" Taylor of heart and kidney failure February 8 at his home in Farmington, Conn.
