Over the past five years, Bill Manning, managing $2.2 billion as a partner of Manning & Napier of Rochester, N.Y., ranks 13th in performance for money managers, according to Computer Directions Advisors. On Black Monday, Manning was 49 percent in government bonds and only 29 percent in stocks. Contact him to find out the stocks and bonds he now recommends but Manning offers this thought. "You can make money in stocks if earnings go up, provided that interest rates don't go up faster."
When in Hanover, take a moment for a visit to Blunt Alumni Center. There is a pleasant lounge where you can meet old friends. There is also a wall covered with Alumni Fund plaques. Note that 1958 stands out. The Wilde 21 Reunion Record Award for the 15th Reunion is held by 1958 with Bob Eleveld and Herb Swarzman as class agents. The 20th Reunion 2nd place record is held by the class with Joel Portugal and Mel Alperin as class agents. The class of 1938 award for the largest dollar total for a non-reunion year went to '5B when WaltVail was the head agent. In 1965 Herb Swarzman won the trophy as outstanding head agent one to ten years after graduation. I'm sure all of the class agents would agree that it was the work of many classmates who made these records possible. Nothing has changed.
