Greetings, group. With over 800 freshmen the college appears all but bursting at the edges. Several fraternity houses expanded their living quarters, but things will remain crowded until the new dorm makes its appearance.
Upon my arrival for the N. H.-Dartmouth game, Tom Harper informed me that LeoMcKenna and Bill Beagle were helping coach the freshman football team. By all reports, it looks like the Big Green rounded up another fine crop of athletes for future varsity potential.
The '56s continue to fill the files with marriages. The other night Hugh Manchester and I bumped into each other at Radio City Music Hall. Hugh told me that he was on his honeymoon. After a few days in New York, he and the Mrs. were headed for Europe to celebrate the event.
Buz Farbar and Bob Krissel are now working in New York City for advertising agencies - Buz with Benton and Bowles, Bob with McCann-Erickson. Buz is none too anxious to leave New York due to some romantic intentions, while Bob plunges through the traditional mail room phase of his training program.
Dick Benoit wed Judith Bower of Putnam, Conn. After a trip to Cape Cod, the couple settled in Boston.
Ens. Bill Lary married Shirley Patten. Mrs. Lary recently completed her duties at the Hanover hospital. After a wedding trip to Maine, the couple will live in Washington, D. C.
Al Welty of "Injunaires" fame joined hands with Carlota Henriques of Larchmont, N. Y. Mrs. Welty is employed by Doubleday and Company in New York.
Dick Wallace and Marilyn Morse have become Mr. and Mrs. The couple left for a wedding trip to Laurentides Park, Quebec. Dick is now stationed at the Pensacola Naval Training Station in Florida. Chuck Ellicott has also chosen himself a bride in the person of Judith Lloyd of Chevy Chase, Md. The couple plans to live in San Francisco, Cal.
Don Davidoff was recently married to Joanne Dembo of Albany, N. Y. The bride attended Russell Sage College. Don, at present, is at Albany Law School.
Lizabeth Lake was married to Bob Johnston. The couple settled in Flushing, N. Y., after a wedding trip to the British West Indies. Bob is a salesman for the Holland Smith Supply Corp.
Dave Dolben was another '56 who took time out from regular duties to get married. His bride, Jean Ann Eyles, was graduated from Middlebury College.
Before encountering the next pile of marriage releases, let's see what's happening to some of the bachelors. Pete Kolar has entered Harvard graduate school to continue his studies in statesmanship. Lee Gammill has decided to give Tuck School his attention for the next two years. I found him busy comparing notes about various '56s during the September 29 weekend.
By chance, Ed Hennessey and I came away from White River Junction on the same train. At a quick glance it appears Ed is well on the mend from his serious mishap of last year. I know this news will be welcomed by all.
Nils Larson and Bill Neely are both actively employed by the Diehl Mfg. Co., in a sales capacity. Their company has a generous policy whereby they can obtain their Master's in business in a very short time, free of charge.
John Barnett has the title of junior buyer with the Ramo-Wooldridge Corp. Steve Bissell is a credit investigator for the N. Y. Trust Co. Along business lines, Bob Brazelton is after his Executive degree at the Oklahoma Business School.
Tom Holdorf is now a junior computor for the Petty Geophysical Engineering Co.
Back to those weddings! Clif Allen married Judith Anne Bellows this past August. Bill Sherman and Tony Newey were among the many '56s present for the occasion. Mrs. Allen attended Bradford Junior College. Like so many others, the couple took a wedding trip to Europe.
Martin Shore wed Judith Rosoff. After a trip to Hawaii the couple plans to live in Denver, Colo. Lois Marvin, a graduate of the University of Vermont, married George Brophy. George plans to complete his work for his Master's degree this year at Tuck School. The couple will make their home in Hanover.
Dave Rice and Lois Warner were among the many August couples that hit the '56 trail. The bride was graduated from Northeastern University where she majored in sociology. Before entering the University of Pennsylvania Law School, John Higgs married Helen Piatt. John and the Mrs. are now living at 4050 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pa.
Ira Schattman and his wife, Rona Goldstein, are back in Hanover after a summer wedding. The groom is finishing out his studies at Tuck School.
Miss Georgia Corbiere and Lt. RichardWhitney were wed in Weston, Mass., on August 19. A debutante of the 1952-53 season, the bride was graduated from Vassar College. Among the ushers we find the names of such '56ers as Chet Zinn, Bob Faulkner, and BobGrossman. After a wedding trip to Maine, the couple took up roots in Warrenton, Va.
Egil Stigum, of soccer fame, recently married Judith Carr of Wolfeboro, N. H. The bride attended St. Mary's-In-The-Mountain School and was graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. Egil expects to continue his studies for a master's degree this fall at McGill University. Following a wedding trip to St. Simon's, Sea Island, Ga., the couple will make their home in Montreal.
Paul Ford is engaged to Lena-May Carrick, a senior at Mount Holyoke College this fall. Paul has been awarded an assistantship in the department of English at Syracuse University, where he will continue graduate studies.
2nd Lt. Walt Hetfield entered the Army this July after graduation. Walt is studying tactics and staff procedures and ordnance service management at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.
John Seymour is doing research work in the college laboratories under a $600 Lederle Medical Student Research Fellowship.
News reaches these here parts that JohnNordling has been appointed assistant registrar for the Rutgers Adult Center in Newark. Last summer John worked with the American Friends' Service Committee in Mexico on school construction. His activities included teaching English and giving vaccinations as well as building operations.
Brad Leonard had charge of Camp Jobildunc this past summer. The camp's objective is to develop habits which will help boys as future hunters, fishermen, hikers and campers.
Don't forget the pre-game cocktail party before the Columbia game in Hanover on November 10. The Tuck School boys are arranging this for us, in conjunction with their usual Clearing House party. Foster Aborn, head of the business tycoons' social committee, has notified me that the party will start around noon on the patio behind Tuck's Stell Hall. In case of bad weather, the affair will take place in Stell Hall.
