1 The Hood Museum's "Drawings at Dartmouth" exhibit features drawings from the College's collection by Rousseau, Degas, Rodin, Matisse and Picasso. The exhibit runs through November 27.

12 Freshman week begins for the 1,100 members of the class of 1992. The food is still green at Moosilauke.

17 Football season opens with a home game against Penn. Dartmouth hasn't won a season opener since the 1983 team beat Princeton.

18 Fall registration, at which students choose from 482 offerings. This is more than five times the number of courses taught in 1888.

28 Dartmouth University was founded in 1815, and John Wheelock became the first president. Francis Brown became president of Dartmouth College on the same day.

29 Groundbreaking ceremonies for the 200-million-dollar Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center project are held in Lebanon.

SEPTEMBER "Dartmouth has always had brain and brawn. With the advent of the Hopkins Center it acquired if I may pursue poetic whimsy soul. Now I hear that co-education may come to Hanover, suggesting that the College may shortly discover sex.
