After three days of oppressive summer heat in the mid-nineties, it is apparent that it was a mistake to leave our cottage on Bustins Island, Maine, for a few days this week to return to Wayland for miscellaneous chores such as checking on the garden and sorting out cards and letters from classmates to assemble what follows:

Our former roommate, Bill MacKay, regrets that he and Jeannette will have to take a rain check on attending the fall reunion this September because of cataract problems. He was delighted to enjoy the winter skijoring scene pictured on the current issue of our class birthday cards.

Mish Cleaves in Concord, Mass., answered his birthday card with the following lines by George Ludcke entitled "Revised Priorities."

We play many roles as we journey through life,

Arriver, cpnniver and striver, But as the allotted time grows short,

Most just aspire to be a survivor. Ben Bell's wife, Mim, wrote that it was too hot in Tampa to take Ben outside in his wheelchair. However, he still enjoys listening to tapes of Glenn Miller and other big bands. Mim in June attended her 55th reunion at Wellesley.

From Naples, Fla., Al Wellman's wife, Leona, brought us up to date. They live in Bentley Village near Bonita Springs in North Naples. Al has been in the health care facility for two years. After breaking his hip last Christmas, he has been in bed or in a wheelchair most of the time.

Brugy Bruguiere appreciated receiving the gold star that was affixed to his latest class birthday card for achievement in reaching the advanced age of 85 without mishap. We also received thanks from a number of other classmates, including BobPage, Don Megathlin, Don Lacoss, BobBliss, Dick Swartzbaugh, and Ted Rose.

With sadness, we report the sudden death of Albeit A. Lawrence on July 8. This was only 18 days after he had written to us to report on a trip to Connecticut he and Jean had made to attend the college graduation of a grandson.
