Happy New Year to all as, once again, we commence a new decade. Perhaps 1990 will even herald the retirement of a few of our lawyers who love their work so much that they can't bear to retire. Here are words from a few of them.

Dud Bonsai, whose letterhead reads "United States Senior District Judge, New York, N.Y.," wrote: "I am well and still working which is why I could not get up to the reunion in Hanover last September. I am afraid that I shall have to retire one of these days."

Arthur Segal, on letterhead which reads "Loeb and Loeb, New York, N.Y.," said: "Glad to report: in good shape—spend four days a week in my law firm."

Through frequent conversations, we know that Paul Hannah travels almost 20 miles every day to Boston from his home in Weston. His law firm is so busy it is in the process of moving to more spacious quartera.

Dick Swartzbaugh of Toledo, Ohio, brought us up to date with regard to his routine: "Am 84, wife 73, married 51 years, practice law 16 hours a week, and lunch daily at the Toledo Club. No arthritis, no pains of any sort, no liquor (not much, anyway), and no smoking."

Courtesy of Bob Long, who telephoned him, Justin Doyle is a retired partner in the largest law firm in Rochester, N.Y. Justin left Dartmouth at the end of his freshman year because of the death of his father and went on to the University of Rochester and later to Harvard Law School.

We know another lawyer who is actually retired, Gordon Colby. The Colby family had two important occurrences in 1989. First was the May marriage of their daughter Eleanor in Thetford, Vt., followed by a gala reception at Pierce's Inn in Etna. Second was a family reunion in August at the Colbys' home in Woodbridge, Conn., celebrating Gordon's and Mary's 60th wedding anniversary.

Several deaths to report this month: Raymond M. Ring September 15, Martin J.Knorr October 7, Sydney I. Harris October 12, Edward E. Redcay October 17.
